The Recreation Therapist BSO is a critical role within our communities as it impacts the lives of residents and ignites the warmth of human connection.

As a Recreation Therapist BSO your typical day will impact in the following ways :

Responsibilities
  • Providing and assessing for recreation therapy activities including outings in accordance with established policy, physician’s orders, and resident plan of care and within the scope of practice.
  • Developing and sustaining a plan of care to meet residents’ assessed needs based on individual strengths, needs and interest of residents.
  • Communicates and promotes the activities of the department to residents, team members, families, volunteers and the community to encourage collaborative participation in programs.
  • Ensuring that thorough evaluation of assessments, intervention plans, program development and program delivery is consistently being completed to ensure the efficacy of recreation services.
  • Identifies department learning needs and makes provisions for appropriate education and continuing team member development.
  • Participates in the recruitment, selection, orientation, development and performance management of Recreation Department team members.
  • Ongoing professional development both personally and professionally in relation to therapeutic recreation and staying current with the trends in the industry
  • Guiding recreation therapy assistants to ensure proper documentation is completed (e.g., MDS / RAI, Activity Pro). Observes facilitation of activities, engages in reflective practice to ensure appropriate and thorough programming is taking place.
  • Responsible for maintaining accurate and complete records of care delivered, including program development and program delivery.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Must haves :
  • University degree in Recreation / Leisure Studies, and / or a degree in Health Sciences with a post graduate degree in Therapeutic Recreation, from a recognized University or equivalent education and experience.
  • Member in good standing with Therapeutic Recreation Ontario (TRO).
  • Be a registered Recreation Therapist (R / TRO) or in process of registration with TRO.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience working with seniors.
  • Qualifications must meet definition under MDS-RAI guidelines.
  • All applicants must successfully pass the prescribed Vulnerable Sector Check.
