Job summary

A leading rail services provider is looking for a field technician to operate detector cars and conduct rail inspections across Canada. This position requires heavy travel for 3-4 months at a time. Responsibilities include performing vehicle inspections and maintenance, adhering to safety protocols, and traveling on a regular schedule. Candidates should have a valid Class 5 driver’s license, excellent communication skills, and physical endurance for demanding tasks. Competitive compensation is offered.

Qualifications

  • Valid Class 5 or higher commercial driver’s license with air brake endorsement.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Basic mechanical proficiency; able to change a tire, replace a battery, etc.
  • Physical ability to lift and carry up to 85 lbs.
  • Endurance to squat, kneel, and crawl under an 18-inch clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Operate detector car and perform vehicle inspections.
  • Maintain, service, and repair detector vehicle and carriage.
  • Climb steps or ladders to access the vehicle repeatedly.
  • Report safety violations or faulty conditions to the supervisor.
  • Travel to pre-assigned customer sites across Canada.

Skills

Valid Class 5 or higher commercial driver’s license

Basic mechanical proficiency
Physical ability to lift and carry up to 85 lbs
Endurance to perform extended periods of lower-extremity work
Ability to travel 3-4 months at a time
