Position Summary

The Purchaser is responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and procuring materials, equipment, and services required for heavy civil construction projects. This role plays a critical part in ensuring projects remain on schedule and within budget while maintaining high standards of quality and compliance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Source and procure construction materials, equipment, and subcontracted services for piling, bridge, and foundation projects
  • Obtain and evaluate competitive bids from vendors and suppliers
  • Negotiate pricing, terms, and delivery schedules
  • Issue purchase orders and track order status to ensure timely delivery
  • Develop and maintain strong supplier relationships
  • Coordinate with project managers, estimators, and site teams to forecast material needs
  • Monitor inventory levels and manage material allocations across multiple projects
  • Resolve supply chain issues, delays, or discrepancies
  • Ensure compliance with contract specifications, safety standards, and company policies
  • Maintain accurate purchasing records and documentation
Qualifications
  • 3–5+ years of purchasing experience, preferably in heavy civil, industrial, or infrastructure construction
  • Knowledge of piling materials, structural steel, concrete, rebar, bridge components, and foundation systems is strongly preferred
  • Strong negotiation and vendor management skills
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills
  • Experience using Sage 300 Construction & Real Estate and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite desirable
  • Strong communication and problem-solving abilities
  • Post‑secondary education in Supply Chain Management, Construction Management, or a related field (preferred)
