This position is eligible for a hybrid work model. When attending an event or meeting in person, your primary office location will be based out of 426 Brant Street, Burlington, Ontario. Work location is subject to change at the discretion of the City due to operational demands. Effective 2026 this role will be required to be on site 50% of the time each month.
This position is responsible for the development, implementation and oversight of roadway safety-related programs and activities. This position will also lead the development and implementation of a Vision Zero road safety program and action plan in accordance with the vision and goals of Burlington’s Integrated Mobility Plan. Additionally, this position provides project oversight and technical guidance to a team of Traffic Technologists, ensuring efficient execution of roadway safety initiatives. It also serves as the subject matter expert within the Traffic Operations Group and provides coverage in the absence of the supervisor.
You have a diploma/degree in Transportation Engineering Technology or equivalent. Certification, or eligibility for certification, with OACETT (C.E.T.) and as a Road Safety Professional (RSP) with the Institute of Transportation Engineers is an asset. This is complimented by four (4) to seven (7) years working in the traffic field and with specialized knowledge of roadway safety, preferable in a municipal environment. of relevant experience. Experience managing roadway safety related projects and leading consulting assignments is required.
To be successful in this role, you have proven project management skills and feel comfortable with technology systems. Your ability to communicate effectively allows you to interact well with others and provide excellent customer service. You are well-organized and excel at problem-solving.
You will be required to attend sites that may include heavy traffic, particularly when urgent/unplanned response is required. Weather and site conditions can be a hinderance. Personal protective equipment (PPE) will be provided and is always required when working in the field.
A valid Class G driver’s licence is required with an acceptable driver’s abstract (no more than three (3) driving related convictions or an accumulation of no more than three (3) demerit points in the previous three (3) years prior to the date of hire). You may have access to a City-owned vehicle but may need to provide own transportation from time to time.
