Main Purpose and Function
The Senior Project Manager is responsible for leading the delivery of a major infrastructure project—seismic and rehabilitation upgrades to the Cambie Bridge, valued at approximately $300 million. This project is part of an overall upgrade program that also includes transportation and utility improvements, to support long-term community needs and advance key City goals in sustainability, resilience, accessibility, and growth.
As part of a cross-functional team, the Senior Project Manager will oversee all aspects of project delivery, including detailed planning, execution, and focused risk management. The role involves managing unionized and exempt staff, external consultants, and contractors, as well as a range of internal and external key Stakeholders, while ensuring alignment with the Engineering Department’s project management framework and standards.
The successful candidate is a progressive, collaborative, and strategic professional with a strong background in project and construction management. They bring proven leadership experience and excel at developing and executing a wide range of processes and procedures in fast-paced, evolving environments.
Reporting to the Deputy Branch Manager or Branch Manager, the position operates in a matrix environment and leads multidisciplinary teams including engineers, asset owners, and regulatory staff. The role also coordinates with internal departments (Real Estate and Facility Management, Finance, Supply Chain, Communications), external agencies (Metro Vancouver, TransLink, Vancouver Coastal Health), and community stakeholders.

Where operationally appropriate and subject to change, the City of Vancouver has a Flexible Work Program. This program allows staff to work a hybrid work week from locations that are a daily commutable distance from their work at a City worksite. At this time this position is eligible to be part of the Flexible Work Program.
