About The Position

The Project Engineer will lead a small team to oversee the installation, commissioning, and start-up of process equipment in the plant. They will manage and motivate contractors to complete the work on time, on budget, and according to specifications, and will process field changes, communicate with others, and resolve technical questions. In most cases, machine OEM engineer(s) will also be on site to provide technical support. The Project Engineer will work in a construction environment under the direction of the GE Construction Manager.

Essential Duties
  • Manage risks and ensure that contractors complete the electrical and mechanical work safely, to specification, on time, and on-budget.
  • Participate in installation bid package preparation, contractor qualification, and the pre-construction preparation process.
  • Thoroughly understand the equipment installation sequencing, assembly details, budget estimate, job scope, and schedule.
  • Read and understand all manufacturer assembly drawings and instructions for equipment installation, bid packages, and construction packages, including scopes of work, specifications, and drawings.
  • Lead daily contractor meetings.
  • Effectively manage communications between the contractor, Goodyear corporate engineers, and others to coordinate the work and resolve issues.
  • Conduct weekly calls with the GE process team and issue meeting minutes.
  • Assure that all installations meet GE requirements and standards.
  • Check key deliverables such as scope of supply, quality, workmanship, and functionality to ensure that systems are ready for use.
  • Perform administrative tasks including scheduling, budget management & cost control, issuance of weekly reports, parts management, etc.
  • Review and approve progress invoices and change requests.
  • Verify that all equipment drawings, operation & maintenance manuals, and spare part lists have been received.
  • Coordinate commissioning activities with the contractors, equipment suppliers, GE engineers, and the plant operations team.
  • Coordinate equipment commissioning activities with data management systems for production tracking and monitoring.
  • Support the PSO (Process Sign-Off) for assigned equipment and manage punch lists.
  • Collect and maintain “as-built” information to reflect any changes made during construction.
  • Standard working time will be 5 days per week during construction. Other hours may be required to meet deadlines or during the start-up and testing of new systems.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering and a Licensed Engineer (P. Eng) in Ontario, OR relevant experience, and preferably trade certifications (e.g. millwright or electrician)
  • 5+ years of field equipment installation experience
  • Experience with process equipment, preferably Tire or Rubber machinery
  • Good understanding of safe work practices and proper workmanship
  • Ability to demonstrate effective teamwork, maintain a professional demeanor, and foster positive relationships inside and outside the team
  • Budgeting and capital forecasting experience
  • Familiarity with Gantt chart scheduling and software, as well as identification and mitigation of schedule risks
  • Experienced user of AutoCAD two-dimensional drafting software.
  • Candidates with experience in both mechanical and electrical systems are preferred. However, the primary requirement is that the engineer must be capable of working in a project management capacity, overseeing both mechanical and electrical disciplines as the leader of a process area for the project team.
  • Mechanical Systems:
    • Thorough understanding of equipment rigging, leveling, alignment, grouting, welding, and commissioning procedures
    • Ability to read piping schematics and flow diagrams
    • Knowledge of environmental concerns and requirements
    • Industrial piping, pumps, valves, and instrumentation for water, gas, hydraulics, pneumatics, steam, compressed air, and lubrication
    • Fire protection piping and systems
    • Process ventilation and cooling, including humidity-controlled systems
    • Dust collector systems
    • Familiarity with industry and government specifications and standards for the above types of systems
  • Electrical Systems:
    • Medium and low-voltage drives and machine control systems
    • Pneumatic and hydraulic control systems
    • Vision systems for guiding and tracking materials
    • Gauging systems
    • Barcoding systems
    • Safety systems
    • Ability to read and interpret single-line wiring diagrams, schematic wiring diagrams, electrical equipment location drawings, plan drawings, installation detail drawings, PLC control logic, etc.
    • Ability to verify electrical drawings and installations for compliance with Goodyear, industry, and government standards and specifications.
    • Ability to develop testing requirements and lead electrical equipment checkout, startup, and troubleshooting.
    • Familiarity with industry and government specifications and standards for the above types of systems
