Programs Kitchen Coordinator – Job Description

Employment Type: Full-time Term Contract

Positions available: 1

Shift Times: Onsite, 40 hours per week as per the assigned schedule. Must be flexible with scheduling and available to participate in the on-call rotation to support a 24/7 program environment.

Youth Empowerment and Support Services (YESS) is currently seeking a qualified Full-Time term contract Programs Kitchen Coordinator until June 30, 2026.

What We Do

Youth Empowerment and Support Services (YESS) is a not-for-profit organization working with youth facing difficult realities. Based in Edmonton, our Youth Support Centre provides immediate and low-barrier 24/7 sleep support and individualized wrap-around supports for young people aged 15 - 24.

We work collaboratively within a network of care focused on the prevention of youth homelessness by providing youth with the necessary supports to stabilize their housing, improve their wellbeing, build life skills, connect with community, and avoid re-entry into homelessness.

At YESS, we care about the well-being of our team. Our onsite Wellness Practitioner provides support during challenging times, offers guidance on stress management, and promotes overall health and balance.

Job Summary

The Programs Kitchen Coordinator will be responsible for handling the health and safety tasks for all programs kitchens, as well as developing and implementing kitchen life skills modules for the youth. The Programs Kitchen Coordinator will be responsible for the cleanliness and maintenance of the kitchens, responsible for creating and maintaining an inventory of all food and kitchen items for each kitchen, as well as implementing a life skills training for the youth to complete. The modules used will be tracked and a quarterly summary will be completed to show outcomes and efficiency.

Responsibilities
  • Develop processes and structures for all programs kitchen
  • Ensure that health and safety standards are maintained throughout the kitchens
  • Organize and inventory all areas in the kitchens where food and equipment are stored
  • Complete and maintain weekly cleaning of the kitchens up to kitchen standards
  • Purchase, plan and prepare healthy snacks for all programs
  • Work with staff and youth to prepare daily meals
  • Prepare, submit and pick-up food requisitions for each residential program
  • Tailor meals with specified food restrictions and special diets
  • Build relationships with youth and staff around food
  • Develop hands-on modules for the youth to complete to improve kitchen skills and kitchen competency
  • Create and support special meal requests including breakfast and lunch prep.
  • Complete onboarding training for new Programs staff
  • Report to Director of Programs on progress and meeting youth and staff needs
  • Complete a quarterly report on duties, outcomes and progress within the programs.
