Job description

The YMCA Of Southwestern New Brunswick is a charity offering opportunities for personal growth, community involvement and leadership. The Glenn Carpenter Center, located on Foster Thurston, offers Member programs in an Outdoors setting unlike any other location in Saint John. It offers more than 250 acres of forest, its own private lake, trails, an archery field, a sports field, a beach and much more. This allowing children, Youth, Teens and adults to learn new skills and participate in some of their favorite activities Year round.

The Opportunity

The Program Leader supports the delivery of scheduled member programs and rental activities at the Glenn Carpenter Centre. This role involves facilitating a variety of recreational, creative, and outdoor experiences in a welcoming and safe environment. Program Leaders will have to follow a schedule and are expected to work independently and collaboratively with other staff to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all.

Responsibilities
  • Facilitate scheduled member programs and rental group activities, which may include creative sessions, casual social events, and outdoor experiences.
  • Follow the provided program schedule of activities
  • Ensure the safety and enjoyment of all participants by adhering to YMCA of Southwestern New Brunswick’s policies and procedures.
  • Maintain a positive, inclusive, and respectful atmosphere for all
  • Monitor and maintain program areas, equipment, and supplies.
  • Work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating initiative and professionalism.
  • Assist in completing required administrative tasks related to the operation of the Glenn Carpenter Centre
  • To assist in all other operations as requested by the Manager of The Glenn Carpenter Centre
  • As a member of the GCC staff, the Program Leader will provide a positive role model for fellow staff and members in every aspect of life, being conscious of health, dress, speech, etiquette and relations with others.
  • Model appropriate behaviors to staff in line with the YMCA of Southwestern New Brunswick mission, vision and values; establishes rapport and maintains effective relationship building behavior with staff, volunteers and members.
Qualifications
  • Experience working with the public in recreational, hospitality, or customer service settings.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • First Aid/ CPR certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Possess a strong work ethic and excellent organizational skills
  • Employment is contingent on having a clean Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search.
