Job description

What qualifications are we looking for?

  • Experience working with children to facilitate inclusion within outdoor-based programs
  • Experience leading and/or supervising counsellors in expedition-focused programs
  • Previous experience working with people of all abilities and a solid understanding of the integration process

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Current Standard First Aid and CPR C certification (CPR recertified within the last 12 months) at minimum

Evidence of a clear Police Information Check and Vulnerable Sector Search

What does this role look like at YMCA Calgary?

Reporting to a CCH or Riveredge Coordinator or Supervisor, Program Leads are responsible for:

  • Overseeing the daily program for camp groups, including making adjustments due to weather, availability, and group situation
  • Counsellor support and supervision
  • Supporting campers through behaviour management and parent/teacher contact
  • Educating and encouraging healthy behaviours in campers and staff, including measures to reduce illness and injury, risk management, outdoor and community living, and physical skills and literacy

The Program Leads will work outdoors for most of each day. This role requires lifting program supplies, walking, bending, and standing for extended periods.

Physically, the position can be demanding, involving long periods of walking and standing, physical activities, and games. It also requires moderate bending, lifting, and repetitive movements during camp programs.
