Job description

We are searching for an experienced Applications Engineer to work in-office on behalf of our client, a Distribution and Assembly of Industrial equipment company located in the Kitchener / Waterloo / Cambridge area. The candidate will have 6+ years experience within the pumping industry and will work with leaders in the industry and be a subject matter expert on pumps, accessories, motors, controls and more. This position will be a part of a positive, collaborative team in a growing business with the opportunity to explore new products, services and interests as the company continues to grow.

Sr. Process & Applications Engineer

Responsibilities
  • Design and implement innovative water treatment and pump system solutions in support of the water reuse business.
  • Create design specifications and detailed submittals, including P&IDs, process narratives, and pump system documentation.
  • Develop and manage 3D models in SolidWorks and 2D drawings in DraftSight or AutoCAD for fabrication and design packages.
  • Perform pump selection, sizing, and system curve analysis to ensure optimal performance and efficiency.
  • Lead in developing standard designs and design libraries for pumps, packaged systems, and water treatment solutions.
  • Assist in R&D initiatives, including testing and validation of pumps and new technologies.
  • Collaborate with clients to understand water treatment and pumping requirements, tailoring solutions accordingly.
  • Provide technical support during project implementation, including troubleshooting pump and water treatment systems.
  • Stay up to date on industry trends and advancements in pumps, water treatment, and sustainable water reuse technologies.
  • Conduct process calculations, simulations, feasibility studies, and risk assessments to support decision-making.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related discipline.
  • Proven experience in water treatment process design and pump system engineering.
  • Familiarity with potable and non-potable water treatment concepts and sustainable water management practices.
  • Firm understanding of unit processes in water treatment, associated instrumentation, and controls.
  • Ability to perform engineering calculations for pump sizing, head loss, and water treatment processes.
  • Proficiency in 3D / 2D design tools (SolidWorks, DraftSight / AutoCAD).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of relevant regulations, codes, and standards related to pumps and water treatment.
  • Experience with process simulation tools and engineering software.
Preferred Qualifications / Experience
  • P.Eng. designation or eligibility for licensure.
  • Experience with rotating equipment (pumps, turbines, motors, VFDs, etc.).
  • Knowledge of stormwater management concepts.
  • Experience with pressure vessels, piping design, and packaged mechanical builds.
  • Familiarity with industry standards (ASPE, CSA, NSF, ASME, ASTM).
  • Hands-on experience with pump testing, commissioning, or troubleshooting.
