The Primary Care Paramedic provides professional, effective and efficient emergency care and transportation of the seriously ill in a pre-hospital setting, while in transport to hospital, as well as in hospital. They also provide primary client care by surveying the emergency situation and taking necessary action. The PCP conducts physical examinations; performs comprehensive assessments and tests. The PCP is an integral team member of facility-based response teams including but not limited to the Code Blue Response team and the Code White Response team. The PCP also functions as a leader and a mentor within the Paramedicine program, as well as a preceptor for Primary care paramedic students. The Paramedic is an integral member of the Emergency Department team, providing care, based on their scope of practice to patients in the ER, in collaboration with nursing staff and physicians. The successful candidate must demonstrate an awareness of and be responsible for promoting and supporting person-and family-centered care, demonstrate a commitment to safety and partner with all team members to improve worker and patient safety by integrating safety into work practices, identifying risks and implementing improvements.
