Position: Pre-roll/Cigarette Mechanical Engineer

Job Summary

As a Mechanical Engineer with experience in cigarette makers and packers that produce cigarettes or straight‑edge pre‑rolls. You will be responsible for operating and maintaining the industrial machinery and be a subject matter expert with the maker and packer equipment that produces cannabis straight‑edge pre‑rolls. Your tasks will include operating the equipment, start‑up and set‑up of the pre‑roll machines, performing regular maintenance and cleaning. The Pre‑Roll Mechanical Engineer will have a thorough understanding of the processes involved with setting up the machine with the necessary materials, regulating the flow of cannabis, ensuring each pre‑roll meets quality standards, and troubleshooting any issues. This role requires attention to detail, problem‑solving skills, and a commitment to producing high‑quality pre‑rolls. Kindly note that for the right candidate, we are open to a relocation allowance.

Main Duties
  • Work on makers and packers and have experience with the processes.
  • Read blueprints, manuals, diagrams and schematic drawings to determine work procedures.
  • Install, align, dismantle and move stationary industrial machinery and mechanical equipment, such as pumps, fans, tanks, conveyors, furnaces and generators according to layout plans using hand and power tools.
  • Inspect and examine machinery and equipment to detect and investigate irregularities and malfunctions.
  • Install, troubleshoot and maintain power transmission, vacuum, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, and programmable logic controls.
  • Adjust machinery and repair or replace defective parts.
Pre‑Roll Mechanical Engineer Responsibilities
  • Placing rolls of rod paper and strain‑specific tipping paper onto the machine.
  • Regulating the flow of milled cannabis to ensure each pre‑roll contains the specified amount of flower.
  • Filling glue reservoirs and documenting components added to the machines.
  • Threading rod paper between guide rolls and adjusting friction tension on holding spindles.
  • Starting the machine, observing its operation, and troubleshooting any issues that arise to maintain production efficiency.
  • Verifying that weights are correct and in accordance with standards.
  • Cleaning paper scraps and waste materials from the machine using a brush and air gun.
  • Placing rolls of tipping material on spindles and filling hoppers with filters.
  • Replacing full catching trays and performing quality checks to ensure the size, weight, and shape of the pre‑rolls meet quality standards.
  • Diagnosing machine problems, responding to fault lamps, and message displays, and adjusting the machine accordingly.
  • Loading materials, clearing material jams, and making minor machine adjustments.
  • Performing machine and area cleaning as described in work instructions.
  • Performing all quality checks and tests as described in work instructions.
  • Ordering materials, verifying materials and production specifications, performing quality checks, monitoring and responding to KPI data prompts, setting up the machine for various product styles, and classifying finished product through direct interaction with an advanced Manufacturing Execution System and Document Management System, and other computer applications as appropriate.
  • Performing procedures and work assignments in keeping with company safety rules and all other policies and procedures.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
  • 5–10 years in a high‑speed industrial production environment, maintaining cigarette maker and packer machinery.
  • University degree or equivalent diploma and experience.
  • Cigarette maker experience with an OEM involving service, operation, training, troubleshooting and installation is an asset.
  • Tobacco & Cannabis manufacturing experience preferred.

Compensation Range: $70,000 – $100,000k annually
