Overview

Location: Designated Work Location — Various locations on site. Position type: Permanent, Full-time. Hours: Various rotating shifts, including 10-hour shifts, days/evenings/nights, weekends and holidays. Salary: bi-weekly pay range $2,596.45 to $5,192.91. Employee group: Winnipeg Police Association (WPA). Posting No: 126189. Closing Date: Monday, October 6, 2025. Anticipated Class Start: August 2026.

Job Profile

The Winnipeg Police Service (WPS) is offering an opportunity for those interested in a career within the WPS as a Police Constable. Daily duties include interacting with the public; the successful candidate must have excellent interpersonal, social perceptiveness, and listening skills. Proficient organization, physical fitness, and ability to work in a team are also necessary.

Responsibilities
  • Promote positive public relations through community involvement, including crime and drug prevention strategies
  • Conduct criminal investigations by gathering evidence, interviewing victims, witnesses and suspects
  • Patrol assigned areas and monitor activities to protect people and property
  • Enforce Federal, Provincial and Municipal Statutes as required
  • Complete crime analysis, identify criminal activity trends and develop solutions/projects in trend areas
  • Prepare and provide evidence in court matters
  • Other duties as assigned
Education and Qualifications

Your education and qualifications include:

  • Grade 12 Diploma; G.E.D. Certificate; or equivalent
  • Valid Class 5 Full Driver’s License
  • Ability to establish and maintain a positive, respectful, safe and healthy work environment that supports working relationships in a team
  • Demonstrated acceptable attendance and job performance relevant to this position
  • Strong interpersonal skills including communication (oral and written)
  • Ability to problem solve using a variety of interpersonal skills including initiative, creativity, organizational and self-directed

IMPORTANT: Applicants educated outside of Canada must have education comparable to the minimum qualification in Canada. Foreign credentials require an official academic assessment report issued by a recognized Canadian assessment service at application. If you are not submitting proof of Grade 12 completed within Canada, you must submit proof of a full-time, two-year post-secondary program completed in Canada.

  • Work or volunteer experience involving significant interaction with the public

Minimum Qualifications

Must meet all of the following:

  • 18 years of age
  • Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident
  • No recent criminal activity (last two years, including illegal drugs)
  • No criminal record without a pardon
  • No more than four demerits on driver’s abstract as assessed by the Winnipeg Police Service
Conditions of Employment
  • No more than four demerits on your Driver’s Abstract as assessed by the Winnipeg Police Service
  • Ability to successfully complete the Winnipeg Police Service – Law Enforcement Fitness Assessment (WPS-LEFA)
  • Must work 10-hour shifts including days, evenings and nights, including weekends and holidays
  • Ability to meet and maintain the standards of a Winnipeg Police Service security check/background investigation and required police clearances
  • Must meet vision and hearing standards (tests may be required later)
  • Class 4 Full Driver’s License required before offer of employment
  • Standard First Aid Certificate required before offer of employment
  • Level C Basic Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certificate required before offer of employment
  • Pre-employment medical examination and psychological assessment
  • Before class start date, you must continue to meet Winnipeg Police Service standards (no police investigation or actions discrediting the Service)
