Job summary

A healthcare provider in Ontario is seeking a Physiotherapy Assistant to support residents in a Long Term Care setting in Thunder Bay. The role involves assisting with therapeutic exercises, documenting progress, and facilitating residents’ mobility. Ideal candidates will be graduates of a Physiotherapy Assistant program and possess strong multi-tasking and communication skills. A valid police check and health testing are required. This position demands living in Thunder Bay, as relocation is not considered.

Qualifications

  • Must be a Physiotherapy Assistant graduate or equivalent.
  • Excellent multi-tasking skills and ability to work under pressure.
  • Ability to communicate well with elderly residents and teammates.
  • Experience in Long Term Care or Retirement home is an asset.
  • Current police check for the Vulnerable Sector is required.
  • Valid 2-STEP TB Test and/or Chest X-ray required.
  • Access to a reliable vehicle and valid driver’s licence is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with conducting group exercises and one-on-one exercises.
  • Encourage residents to reach their treatment goals.
  • Document treatments and residents’ progress after each session.
  • Assist residents with walking, sitting, and safe transferring.
  • Monitor changes to a resident’s health status and report.
  • Perform treatments such as applying ice pack or ultrasound therapy.

Job description

We are currently looking for a Physiotherapy Assistant (PTA) for a Long Term Care client in Thunder Bay, Ontario. Working under the direct or indirect supervision of the Physiotherapist, our assistants will work in close contact with residents to help them implement treatment programs and achieve the goals set out for them.

Schedule
  • 9 hours per week.
Job Duties
  • Assist with conducting group exercises for residents and/or lead one‑on‑one exercises with the assigned resident as directed by the Physiotherapist.
  • Encourage residents to reach the goals of their planned treatment programs when appropriate.
  • Document treatments and residents’ progress after each therapy session per the Physiotherapist’s instructions.
  • Assist residents with walking, sitting, and safe transferring.
  • Monitor any changes to a resident’s health status and report to the Physiotherapist or supervisor.
  • Perform treatments such as applying an ice pack or hot pack, ultrasound therapy, TENS (electrotherapy), hot wax, etc.
Qualifications
  • Must be a Physiotherapy Assistant graduate or equivalent.
  • Excellent multi‑tasking skills and the ability to work well under pressure.
  • Ability to communicate well with the elderly, supervisors, and teammates.
  • Experience working in a Long Term Care or Retirement home would be a definite asset.
  • Current police check for the Vulnerable Sector is required.
  • Valid 2‑STEP TB Test and/or Chest X‑ray is required.
  • Access to a reliable vehicle and valid driver’s licence is a definite asset.
  • We will NOT consider relocation – must be a resident of Thunder Bay.
