A leading research group in Vancouver is seeking a PhD student to apply machine learning to building systems. This four-year position offers a stipend of CAD 30,000 annually and focuses on developing a comprehensive bill-of-material database for common building archetypes, enhancing energy performance metrics in Canada's built environment. Ideal candidates will possess a Master’s degree in Civil Engineering and strong programming and machine learning skills.
There have been growing efforts and advocations for integrating energy performance and carbon intensity metrics into building codes. One of the major technical barriers is the lack of a standard building archetype database and a consistent comparison method for the practitioners and the regulating body. This PhD project aims to remove this technical barrier.
