Job description

Reporting to the Vice-President of Medical Affairs, the Forensic Program Medical Director is part of a team responsible for the successful leadership, operation, and management of the Forensic Program. The role involves working in collaboration with the Administrative Director and according to the strategic directions set by the Board of Directors.

The Medical Director functions as a medical leader for the Program, overseeing all aspects of medical care and addressing issues as they arise. In collaboration with the Administrative Director, the role includes providing leadership in areas such as quality assurance, utilization management, and workplace safety. Responsibilities also encompass recruitment, clinical oversight, physician coverage, mentoring, evaluation of medical staff, and contributing to the clinical oversight and evaluation of other health professionals.

The successful candidate will possess an FRCPC with subspecialty qualification in Forensic Psychiatry or an equivalent, and be eligible for Ontario licensure. The ideal candidate will demonstrate evidence-supported practice innovation, integrated service delivery within an inter-professional team, and a progressive career in senior healthcare leadership within complex, integrated care environments. Knowledge of mental health theory, regulatory frameworks, evidence-based care models, and the ability to function as a designate of the Person-in-Charge are essential.

Ontario Shores Forensic Program comprises 138 assessment, general, and secure beds, supporting approximately 130 forensic outpatients.
