About Fig

Fig is a new Fintech start-up revolutionizing the lending industry in Canada. Named Consumer Lender of the Year in 2024, Fig is dedicated to simplifying the borrowing process to make it more efficient and accessible for Canadians.

Supported by Fairstone Bank and Ontario Teachers Pension Plan, Fig is in a unique position to blend the benefits of extensive lending experience with the agility of a start-up. This combination allows the company to effectively meet the credit needs of Canadians from various financial backgrounds.

The Role

We’re looking for a hands‑on People Operations Manager to join our growing team at Fig, a fintech company helping Canadians access fair and transparent loans. This full‑time role is based in Toronto and is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast‑paced, high‑growth environment and enjoys owning day‑to‑day People Operations while working within clear direction and partnership.

As the People Operations Manager, you will own the execution of core People Operations and act as the primary operator for People‑related processes. Reporting to the VP, Head of People Operations, you’ll have autonomy to run and continuously improve day‑to‑day People Ops, while partnering closely on strategy, policy decisions, and higher‑risk or higher‑impact matters.

What you’ll do

Own Day‑to‑Day People Operations (Execution & Quality)

  • Own the end‑to‑end execution of onboarding and offboarding processes, ensuring a smooth, compliant, and consistent employee experience.
  • Administer payroll using Wagepoint, partnering with third‑party vendors to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
  • Manage benefits administration, including enrollments, changes, renewals, and employee inquiries.
  • Prepare and manage offer letters, contracts, role changes, and other People documentation.
  • Maintain accurate employee records and ensure compliance with Canadian employment legislation and internal policies.

Programs, Systems & Continuous Improvement

  • Execute and administer performance and feedback cycles using performance management tools (e.g., Lattice).
  • Own the day‑to‑day management of People systems and HRIS (Humi preferred), ensuring data accuracy and operational effectiveness.
  • Identify and implement process improvements that enhance efficiency, clarity, and employee experience, within established People frameworks.
  • Run People reporting and operational analysis to support audits, compliance, and leadership decision‑making.

Employee & Manager Support

  • Act as the first point of contact for employee People‑related questions and day‑to‑day employee relations matters.
  • Provide practical guidance to managers on People processes, timelines, and best practices.
  • Escalate sensitive, complex, or higher‑risk employee relations issues in a timely and thoughtful manner.

Partnership, Vendor Management & Recruitment Support

  • Partner closely with People leadership to ensure alignment on priorities, risks, and evolving needs.
  • Manage relationships with third‑party vendors across payroll, benefits, and People tools, operating within agreed contracts and budgets.
  • Support recruitment efforts across the organization by enabling consistent, compliant hiring processes, coordinating logistics, and partnering with hiring managers on People‑related aspects of the hiring lifecycle.
What you’ll bring
  • 4+ years of experience in People Operations, HR Generalist, or similar roles, ideally within a startup or high‑growth environment.
  • Strong hands‑on experience with Canadian payroll and benefits administration (Wagepoint experience is a strong asset).
  • Comfort managing HRIS and People systems (Humi preferred).
  • Experience executing performance management cycles and development & growth modules using tools like Lattice.
  • Solid knowledge of Canadian employment standards and HR compliance.
  • A “get‑it‑done” attitude—you're scrappy, adaptable, and not afraid to build as you go.
  • A practical, execution‑focused mindset — you take ownership, apply good judgment, and know when to align and elevate.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Clear, empathetic, and professional communication style.
  • Experience managing third‑party vendors.
  • Proficiency with modern productivity tools, including AI‑enabled tools, to support documentation, analysis, and day‑to‑day People Operations work.
Why Fig?
  • Unique opportunity to join a company in its scaling phase and shape the future of lending in Canada.
  • Competitive compensation, bonus, and benefits.
  • Retirement savings program with employer matching.
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage, plus health and wellness spending accounts.
  • Generous vacation and parental leave top‑up.
  • Continuing education stipend for professional development.
  • Working Location: Hybrid with 1 day per week (Tuesdays) out of the Toronto office.
