Overview
  • Position: PAYROLL SPECIALIST
  • Term: Permanent Full-time
  • Location: Little Current, Ontario
  • Salary range: $33.27 – $36.00 per hour (based on education and experience)

Position Summary

The Payroll Specialist will perform and oversee the payroll functions for Manitoulin Health Centre, ensuring accurate and timely processing of payroll. This role involves administering various special payments, handling manual cheques, and managing regular monthly remittances, including government benefits. This position is responsible for the day- to-day operations and activities of the payroll department, including planning, organization, and delivery of payroll services.

Qualifications
  • Required: Minimum of a Diploma in a Business, Human Resources or Accounting field, from an accredited college.
  • Preferred: Experience working with both union and non-union payroll or human resources systems; Experience working with Meditech or a payroll HRIS; Working towards or current Certificate as a Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP).
Job Duties
  • Oversee bi-weekly payroll input, collect and review timesheets; process data; follow-up on discrepancies for completeness and accuracy; complete the bi-weekly payroll review and transmit to banking data center.
  • Administer special payments, bonuses, and other compensation-related transactions.
  • Process the required payroll forms to set up new employees, position changes, terminations, and records of employment.
  • Complete year-end payroll procedures, including HOOPP MDC, T4s, respond to CRA PIER statements.
  • Complete, reconcile, and submit payroll remittances to the Government and other agencies (e.g. Receiver General, Minister of Finance, WSIB, union dues, etc.).
  • Respond to information enquiries including employment insurance claims and Statistics Canada.
  • Perform calculations and data entry for retro-active payments, vacation payments, WSIB loans, and sub-plans.
  • Perform data entry for annual salary increases; process billings for leaves of absence (LOA) and retirement health and dental benefits.
  • Perform data entry of Records of Employment (ROEs).
  • Perform the duties of the Payroll Meditech Super-user.

Competencies / Technical
  • Advanced proficiency in computer software applications: Microsoft Office and Meditech Payroll
  • Typing speed minimum of 40 wpm
  • Knowledge of relevant payroll legislation and regulations including WSIB, CPP, EI, ROEs, T4s
  • Knowledge of CUPE, ONA, OPSEU and IUOE collective agreements
  • Knowledge of employee pension and benefit plans
  • Strong numerical skills
