The Corporation of the County of Huron’s Public Works Department is seeking a Full-time Patrol Road Worker 2 for it’s Wroxeter location!
Position Summary

An individual that operates one or more pieces of heavy equipment (Grader, Backhoe, Loader, Boom Mower, etc..) to repair and maintain roads and drainage. Performs road and roadside maintenance and repair activities as well as yard, shop, and equipment maintenance. Uses power equipment and hand tools as required and includes manual labour for routine tasks such as tree cutting/removal, post installations, guide rail repairs, placing asphalt and granular materials.

  • Operates one or more pieces of heavy equipment such as: Tandem, Grader, Backhoe, Loader, and Boom Mower.
  • Assists in the operation of specialized equipment such as Line Painter and Hand Painting.
  • Operates other equipment and tools such as chainsaw, trucks, tractors, mowers, and miscellaneous power and hand tools.
  • Performs various road activities including: asphalt patching and sweeping, line painting, road patrolling, removal and disposal of dead animals.
  • Performs various roadside activities including: mowing, trimming, tree cutting, litter/debris pickup, sign repairs and installations, guiderail repairs, shoulder maintenance and repairs.
  • Performs various drainage activities including: clearing blockages, placement of rip-rap, repair of small headwalls, install culvert liners, installation of small culverts, repair of manholes, catchbasins, curb/gutter, sidewalks.
  • Performs shop, yard, vehicle, equipment maintenance as directed by Supervisor and Lead Hand.
  • Assists in the construction of formwork for concrete repairs (catchbasins, curbs, manholes, sidewalk, etc..), placement of re-bar when required, placement and finishing of concrete, and removal of forms.
  • May assist with Non-structural welding – repairs and minor fabrication.
  • Subject to call-ins outside of regular work hours for emergency repairs and maintenance.
  • Carries out other duties as assigned and as needed including, but not limited to: hauling materials, hand sweeping/shovelling/levelling, sign-making, traffic counter installations, etc.
  • This position will fulfill the role and responsibilities of either Winter Patroller, or Snow Plow Operator during the winter season.
Qualifications and Education
  • DZ License
  • Heavy equipment operator of at least one of the following: Grader, Backhoe, Loader, Boom Mower
  • Min 2 years previous construction and/or maintenance experience required.
  • Clear Driver’s Abstract
Competitive Compensation
  • Summer wage – $27.38 to $32.03 per hour. Winter wage – $30.67 to $35.89 per hour; as per 2025 non-union pay grid
  • Paid days off
