The Opportunity

The Physical Facilities team at Banff Centre is key to keeping our campus and facilities looking their best and operating smoothly. We're looking for a Painter’s Helper to assist painters with the preparation, patching, and painting/staining of all exterior/interior surfaces including wood, plaster, drywall, concrete, brick, etc.

Roles And Responsibilities
  • Prepare and clean up each assigned area upon completion of the job.
  • Assist with applying coatings by brush, roller and spray to surfaces of wood, metal, brick, concrete, plaster, stucco and stone for decorative and protective purposes.
  • Protect all items in the area of each job assignment that don’t require painting.
  • Perform surface preparation on new and existing surfaces.
  • Competently and proficiently use hand tools, power equipment and precision-built machinery safely as required.
  • Perform assigned tasks in accordance with safety, quality, environmental and production standards required by industry.
  • Assist in setting up scaffolding.
  • Assist the Painter(s) during the job and perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualification and Educational Requirements
  • At least three years of related experience working with a painter
  • Expertise in painting with a brush, a roller, and spraying equipment
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong team player and attention to detail
  • Capable of working in physically demanding work including confined spaces, high temperatures, and loud noises
  • Able to perform strenuous physical work
  • Required to be able to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Class 5 Alberta driver’s license
  • Skill with a variety of hand and power tools
Special Requirements
  • Due to the nature of the job, this position requires the candidate to be available to work a flexible, irregular schedule and weekends.
Employment Terms & Benefits
  • In accordance with CUPE 4318, this is a unionized, salaried support staff position, subject to a 6 month probation period.
  • The annual salary for this position is between $36,289.50 and $38,103.00, depending on experience, based on working 37.5 hours per week.
  • The successful candidate will have access to a range of benefits through Alberta Blue Cross and will be eligible to participate in our defined benefit pension plan.
