List of Requirements
- Education: High school diploma or GED required.
- Experience: Prior experience in social services, behavioral health, residential treatment, or related field preferred.
- Certifications: CPR/First Aid certification required (or willingness to obtain upon hire); CPI or other de-escalation training a plus.
- Requirements: Valid Class 5 Drivers Licence, TB Test, Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Adults.
- Skills: Strong observation and crisis management abilities.
- Clear written and verbal communication.
- Empathy, patience, and strong boundaries.
- Ability to remain alert, calm, and responsive during overnight hours.
- Competency in basic computer use and recordkeeping.
List of Duties
Position Summary:
- The Overnight Client Care Staff plays a vital role in maintaining a safe, supportive, and structured environment for clients during overnight hours at our drug and alcohol rehabilitation facilities.
- This position ensures client safety, enforces facility rules and routines, provides emotional support when needed, and documents relevant observations or incidents.
- The role is crucial in supporting the recovery process during non-therapeutic hours.
- Hired Client Care Workers are required to attend training for at least 20 hours in addiction counselling and related topics, obtain and hold a clear criminal record check for vulnerable adults and have a current Standard First Aid Certificate with – CPR.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise and monitor clients throughout the night to ensure safety and compliance with facility rules.
- Conduct regular room and facility checks in accordance with policy.
- Assist in managing crises, including de-escalation, conflict resolution, or medical emergencies, following established protocols.
- Maintain accurate documentation and nightly logs, including client behavior, incidents, and unusual activities.
- Provide emotional support and respond to client needs in a compassionate and professional manner.
- Monitor security systems, ensure facility doors are secured, and report maintenance or safety issues.
- Administer drug or alcohol testing as required, following protocols.
- Assist with wake-up routines and morning medication.
- Support and enforce curfews, quiet hours, and other nighttime routines.
- Communicate effectively with incoming morning staff during shift changes.
- Distribute medications to clients at designated times
- Communicate with the Manager about critical incidents and pass the information on and be a witness to the Manager who will then write the report.
- Respond to incoming calls in a manner that respects the clients’ needs and the confidential nature of Miklat’s operation.
- Communicate regularly with Miklat staff by e-mail and make notes in communication log.
- Overnight hours in a residential treatment setting.
- Possible exposure to emotionally intense or high-stress situations.
- Frequent movement throughout facility to conduct safety checks.
