The Volunteer’s Role

The Organizational Growth and Development Advisor is responsible for driving strategic initiatives that bolster the operational sustainability and expansion of Envirocare Tanzania. In this key role, you will focus on identifying and cultivating innovative business models that are in line with the organization’s mission to advocate for environmental justice, human rights, and gender equity. This will require a comprehensive evaluation of the existing operational framework, allowing you to identify opportunities for enhancing financial sustainability and decreasing reliance on donor funding.

Your responsibilities will include designing and implementing a variety of funding streams, which could involve establishing a consulting division concentrating on services related to environmental issues, human rights, and gender consulting. This initiative is essential as it will generate additional revenue sources and elevate Envirocare's status as a recognized authority in these specialized domains. Your expertise will inform the organizational structure of this division, encompassing core services, pricing models, and target markets.

As a volunteer, you will:
  • Perform a thorough evaluation of Envirocare’s current operations, financial condition, and available funding sources.
  • Create innovative business models that enhance long-term sustainability by integrating environmental, social, and financial elements.
  • Identify and propose varied income avenues, including social enterprises and fee-for-service programs.
  • Provide a comprehensive assessment report that outlines strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities for financial sustainability, along with strategic recommendations.
  • Develop business models that are closely aligned with Envirocare’s mission and objectives, resulting in improved operational resilience and diminished dependence on donor funding.
  • Formulate an implementation plan for diverse income sources, specifying anticipated revenue generation and timelines for each initiative.
  • Bachelor’s degree required in Business Administration, International Development, Social Entrepreneurship, or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of sustainable business practices and models of social enterprise.
  • A minimum of 4 years of experience in organizational development, business development, or related areas.
  • Successful fundraising and resource mobilization for non-governmental organizations (NGOs) or social enterprises.
  • Exceptional skills in proposal writing and acquiring funding from diverse sources such as grants and contracts.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication abilities, coupled with experience in engaging stakeholders and developing partnerships.
  • Proficient in MS Office and knowledgeable about project management software.
  • Capability to train and mentor team members in business development and proposal writing techniques.
  • Robust analytical and strategic thinking skills, with the capacity to design and execute effective business strategies.
  • Ability to work autonomously with minimal oversight while juggling multiple tasks and meeting deadlines.

Volunteer Support and Requirements
Support Package

Cuso International provides a comprehensive support package to ensure volunteers maintain a modest and healthy lifestyle aligned with local standards. This includes:

Selection and Screening

If you are shortlisted, you will need to:

  • Confirm passport or permanent resident details for travel
  • Provide two professional references and one personal reference
  • Complete a language assessment during the initial phone interview
  • Pass a police check and medical clearance before departure
  • Comply with anti-terrorism checks
  • Agree to uphold the Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) policy and Code of Conduct
