Overview

Description

Located out of our Cochrane Extraction Plant, the Operations Technician will report to the Operations Shift Supervisor, Cochrane Extraction Plant. The primary function is the safe and reliable operation of the plant within the scope / capacity of the role through monitoring and making corrective actions.

Responsibilities
  • Carries out routine operating procedures and duties including starting and shutting down equipment as required, process monitoring and recording for units worked.
  • Ensure all Operational duties are performed according to IPL procedures / policies / standards and guidelines.
  • Recognizes and avoids inappropriate risk – elevates concerns to senior operations personnel or supervision.
  • Able to react during an emergency and isolate equipment in operated areas.
  • Perform assigned activities such as procedure development, equipment preparations, planning to support maintenance activities.
  • Assists in preparing and applying energy isolation on equipment, maintaining and / or repairing of equipment and plant systems.
  • Provides input and completes operational activities at direction of the Operations Supervisor and activities on the Daily Work List.
  • Maintains an open attitude toward change and participates in implementing processes and procedures in a dynamic operating environment
  • Work well with a wide variety of people – works toward a win / win outcome with others.
  • Proficient in troubleshooting and resolving issues pertaining to the operation.
  • Maintain appropriate records and documentation where required.
  • Conducts all water and gas sampling for the areas worked.
  • Respond to call outs as required to support Operational shift needs.
  • Ensures “housekeeping” in area of responsibility is maintained to a level acceptable to the facility including obstructions, cleanup and organization.
Education, Skills and Experience
  • High School Diploma (minimum).
  • Holder of a 4th Class Power Engineering Certificate or higher is an asset.
  • Valid class 5 driver's license
  • 8 or more years of facility operations experience
  • Control Room Operator experience is preferred
  • Computer proficiency and excellent interpersonal, problem solving and economic thinking skills are strong assets for this position

Hours

24 / 7 rotating schedule, days and nights

As this position is identified as safety and security sensitive, employment of a final candidate will be conditional upon completion of pre-employment medical, drug / alcohol, drivers abstract, employment verification and criminal background check assessments with satisfactory results.
