Job description

Nurse Practitioner – Saanich Peninsula PCN (100-1985)

Reference Number

100-1985

The Saanich Peninsula Primary Care Network (PCN) is seeking to build a pool of interested nurse practitioner candidates to work with a team of practitioners and other health providers to collectively deliver care to patients at the Primary Care Network Centres/Clinics on the Saanich Peninsula. In these clinical service contract positions, providers will work as part of an innovative clinic model, working collaboratively with an inter-disciplinary health care team to provide culturally safe primary care.

The South Island PCN, now in its third year of implementation, currently funds a variety NP positions across a variety of clinical settings. The Saanich Peninsula has thirteen (13) clinics: nine (9) are run by private family physicians; two (2) are run by a non-profit society; one (1) is run by the health authority; and one (1) is an Urgent Primary Care Centre. These clinics span rural and urban settings and provide care to people of all ages including maternity care.

Acting as the most responsible primary care provider, providers are required to establish a minimum patient panel. After-hours care for patients may be required and the practitioner may participate in an after-hours call group, sharing after-hours coverage with other providers at the clinic.

The roles will be made available subject to funding approval from the Ministry of Health.

Start Date

As soon as possible.

The Ministry provides funding for NP overhead; the current available amount is $75,000 per FTE.

Additional Information

Full or Part-Time positions available.

Community Information

The Saanich Peninsula, the farm and food shopping basket of the South Island, extends north from Victoria to the Swartz Bay ferry terminal, a quick half-hour drive on the multi-lane Highway 17 (aka the Pat Bay Highway), or hit the backroads to see rolling farmland, vineyards, home studios, and exquisite valley views.

The District of North Saanich is home to the Victoria International Airport and ferry terminals in Swartz Bay (BC Ferries to Vancouver and the Gulf Islands) and Sidney (Washington State Ferry to Anacortes, WA.)

Brentwood Bay is perched at the edge of the kayak-friendly Saanich Inlet not far from The Butchart Gardens, a floral wonderland in a reclaimed limestone quarry that has welcomed visitors since 1904.

Not far from the airport and ferry terminal off the Pat Bay Highway,Sidneyhas evolved over the last few decades from a sleepy residential haven into a charming, pedestrian- and bike-friendly destination for shopping, dining, and leisurely strolls by the sea. Visit the kid-friendly Aquarium of the Salish Sea at the Shaw Ocean Discovery Centre, catch a show at the Mary Winspear Centre, embark on a whale-watching expedition, or get active when exploring the town’s two artificial reefs on a diving adventure or by renting a kayak and paddling across to Sidney Spit in the Gulf Islands National Park Reserve.
