Key Responsibilities
- Carrying out foot and vehicle patrols of buildings, grounds, and fence lines.
- Responding to alarms on site and operating conventional and armored patrol vehicles.
- Providing armed, tactical response to a station security threat.
- Conducting searches of persons, packages, and vehicles entering and leaving the facility, using physical and technological methods to ensure no weapons, explosives or other prohibited items enter the facility and to prevent the unauthorized removal of nuclear material.
- Monitoring and recording all vehicle traffic and personnel entering the site in accordance with approved procedures and operating policies.
- Operating and monitoring surveillance video and intrusion detection equipment located within the Central Alarm Station.
- Investigating incidents and preparing condition reports involving breaches of security regulations or other incidents discovered during security patrols or as requested by the Nuclear Response Team Sergeant.
Ideal Teammate – Education & Military Service
- Post‑secondary certificate, diploma, degree or on‑track to graduate in June 2025 in one of the following areas: Police Foundations, Police Science, Law and Security, Criminal Justice, Corrections, Criminology, or a course deemed an equivalent level of education.
- Canadian Armed Forces service (minimum qualifications below). Submission of Members Personnel Record Resume is required for proof of service.
- Regular Force with minimum three years of continuous service.
- Reserve Military Service – Full Time Reserve with minimum three years as a full‑time reserve.
- Reserve Military Service – Part‑Time Reserve with minimum five years as a part‑time reserve.
Minimum Qualifications and Requirements
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence.
- Completed and passed Aptitude & Psychological Testing.
- Completed a competency‑based interview.
- Completed medical screening including hearing, vision, and bloodwork.
- Holder of a valid Firearms Possession and Acquisition Licence (PAL) for both Restricted and Non‑Restricted weapons at the time of application.
- Completed and passed Fitness Testing as per the Ontario Police Fitness Award PIN Program.
- Physical ability to carry approximately 45 pounds of equipment periodically throughout a 12‑hour shift on a rotating schedule that includes nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Strong attention to detail, strong oral and written communication, experience carrying a firearm in the line of duty, ability to handle stressful situations, team orientation with independent work capability, basic computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook, access control applications).
Conditions of Employment
- Security Clearance: Requires a Site Access Security Clearance to Level II SECRET, including background verification, credit check, references, Criminal Record Name Check, and CSIS security recommendation.
- Medical Clearance: Must be medically cleared as "fit for duty" by NB Power's contracted physician and maintain this status.
- Annual Physical Testing: Must successfully pass and maintain annual physical testing.
- Training: Must successfully pass the on‑site Basic Tactical Officer Course (BTOC).
- Certifications: Must obtain and maintain Nuclear Security Officer status and Public Agent Status through Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission approval.
