Our environment is inspired by the Maria-Montessori philosophy of education, where creativity, imagination, social skills, and children's interests determine the curriculum. As a Lead Teacher, you will create an environment that inspires children to think outside of the box and explore and engage with their senses. Your role will be to observe, follow, and document the child's interests and curiosities as they develop.

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities

  • Prepare lessons that reflect accommodation for individual student differences and develop the executive functions for the students.
  • Plan work cycles to expand logic and influence students natural curiosities towards learning
  • Optimize the stimulating environment at the Academy to facilitate student growth, exploration, and participation
  • Conduct assessment of student learning styles, student executive function development and use results to appropriately plan lessons for instructional activities.
  • Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for assistant teachers and / or volunteer(s).
  • Use technologies and optimize the Fueling Brains application for the teaching / learning process.
  • Collaborate with classroom teams for planning and implementation of weekly lesson plans.
  • Encourage children through role modeling and guidance to respect themselves and others.
  • Collaborate with parents and / or guardians to share and ensure the educational success of the child.
  • Supervise the children at all times, ensuring a safe environment inside the classroom and during outdoor programming.
  • Participate in internal and external learning activities to increase knowledge and awareness of Early Childhood Education research.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as required.

What You Bring (Preferred Skills and Qualifications)

  • Minimum three years experience in a Montessori inspired practice
  • Early Childhood Certification and Bachelor's Degree
  • Have earned a Montessori Diploma / Certificate
  • British Columbia Child care Certification Level 1 or higher
  • Valid food and safety certificate
  • Current First Aid Certificate (may be obtained upon hire)
  • Criminal Record Check / Vulnerable Sector Check, within past 6 months (may be obtained upon hire)
  • Ability to lift a min. of 40 lbs especially when working with infants and toddlers
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with children, parents, and colleagues
  • Previous experience of leading a team of teachers in a classroom environment is an asset
  • Learn to play or sing with a musical instrument is an asset
  • Standards hours will be 30-40 hours per week
  • Basic computer skills is a must

  • Foster independence, self-discipline, and a love for learning in each child
  • Observe and assess each child's progress and provide feedback to parents / guardians
  • Collaborate with other educators and staff members to create a cohesive learning community
  • Maintain accurate records of each child's progress, including assessments and portfolios
  • Communicate regularly with parents / guardians regarding their child's development and progress
  • Attend professional development opportunities to enhance your knowledge of the Montessori philosophy and teaching methods

Skills

  • Frenchify: Ability to incorporate French language and culture into the classroom environment
  • Ability to communicate effectively in Spanish is an asset.
  • Time management: Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage time effectively
  • Childcare: Experience working with young children in a childcare or educational setting
  • Bilingual: Proficiency in English and another language (French or Spanish preferred)
  • Computer operation: Basic computer skills for record keeping purposes
  • Special education: Knowledge of special education strategies and techniques is a plus
  • Educate: Passion for educating children and fostering their love for learning
  • Experience with children: Previous experience working with children in an educational setting is preferred
  • Organizational: Strong organizational skills to maintain an orderly classroom environment
  • Computerise: Ability to utilize technology for instructional purposes
