Job Title: MDRD Technician

Status: Regular Part Time

Department: C.S.R. - Bowmanville

Program: Surgical Program

Schedule: Days, Evenings, Weekends, On-Call; 4 and 8 Hour Shifts (Subject to Change)

Location: Lakeridge Health Bowmanville

Wage: $32.080 - $32.880 per hour

This position is open to all qualified CUPE staff throughout Lakeridge Health commencing 16 December 2025 and closing at 11:59 pm on 23 December 2025.

Duties and Responsibilities

Receive record and dispatch request for equipment from all nursing areas including the O.R. Decontaminate, inspect process, sterilize, store and distribute medical/surgical equipment to Nursing Units; identify and process operating room instruments; check and replenish medical/surgical equipment and supplies using a barcoding and inventory system; prepare case carts for surgical procedures including "stats", and operate steam sterilizers. Process, package and sterilize equipment using hydrogen peroxide; monitor and record information regarding equipment; decontaminate respiratory equipment; and, other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Successful completion of a recognized community college program (with required practicum) for Medical Device Reprocessing, or the CSAO course and at least two years' experience in MDRD (experience must be within the past 12 months)
  • Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of cleaning, inspecting, testing and packaging of OR, OPD, EOR, Birthing Suite, and Renal instrumentation
  • Current knowledge of anaesthetic and respiratory equipment
  • Current knowledge of E-Req System
  • Working knowledge of infection control
  • Ability to learn quickly, be precise and proficient, retain what has been taught, be decisive
  • Requires good communication, organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work with minimum supervision
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • Physical ability to perform constant lifting (trays and other supplies and equipment), continuous pushing, unremitting pulling and steering of carts, climbing of ladders, stooping, bending and standing (including walking/standing approximately 90% of the shift)
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, an asset
  • Previous experience in a Health Care setting, preferred
  • Must have satisfactory performance record

Conditions of Employment

The terms and conditions of employment are in accordance with the Collective Agreement between the Hospital and C.U.P.E Local 6364.
