The Marketing and Communications Coordinator plays a key role in supporting the execution of FortWhyte Alive’s communications strategy. Working under the direction of the Communications and Brand Manager, they assist in the implementation, day-to-day management and evaluation of FortWhyte Alive’s social media activities, contribute to content development, asset management, public relations and support various departments with their communications needs, ensuring that all FortWhyte communications align with the overall strategic messaging plan of the organization.
Social Media Management
- Implement a social media content strategy that integrates with and supports the organization’s short and long term goals
- Identify Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), measure performance and review strategy
- Lead the primary channels (Instagram and Facebook) by creating and curating content, including copywriting, photography, videography and user-generated content that supports the organization’s communications strategy
- Lead the secondary channels (TikTok, Threads and LinkedIn) as needed through the creation and curation of content that supports the organization's communications needs
- Identify and develop online engagement and interaction strategies to maximize the effectiveness of the organization’s digital platforms
- Strengthen network of external social media partners for promotional and content purposes
- Provide customer service support through social media channels by monitoring comments, direct messages, tags, and mentions across all platforms
Website & Content
- Under the direction of the Communications and Brand Manager, develop and update content and event listings on FortWhyte Alive’s website to ensure timely and accurate information and imagery
- Update website theme and content seasonally
- Work with the Communications and Brand Manager to coordinate, prepare and publish content as needed for FortWhyte Alive’s blog
- Provide copywriting and editing support for fundraising, events, educational resources and other departments and projects as needed
- Stay up to date on industry trends and social media platform changes
Email Marketing
- Contribute to email marketing through Mailchimp
Digital Tourism & Partnerships
- Monitor the organization's digital presence with tourism partners and assist in preparing paid placements
- Assist in coordinating destination marketing opportunities with tourism partners
- Monitor and update various tourism listings
Media & Press
- Assist with drafting and editing press releases and speaking notes
- As required, act as the organization's representative with the media and/or coordinate appearances with appropriate staff
Social Media Monitoring
- Monitor, respond to and flag social media comments, direct messages, and reviews
Essential Qualifications
- Degree or diploma in marketing, communications, public relations or a related field, or equivalent experience
- 2+ years of relevant industry experience
- Excellent communication skills with an aptitude for creative storytelling and a detailed eye for editing
- Demonstrated experience developing and implementing successful social media strategies across a variety of platforms, including advertising
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and proven ability to work cooperatively with other team members to accomplish shared goals
- Ability to work independently
- Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability to manage and meet multiple deadlines
Desired Qualifications
- Knowledge of SEO, keyword research and Google Analytics
- Experience in website content management systems, particularly WordPress
- Experience with email marketing platforms, particularly Mailchimp
- Photography and videography experience is considered an asset
