Job summary

A global experience and transportation leader is seeking a Marine Technician, Level II, to manage the operation and maintenance of systems on board vessels. The role includes ensuring safety and reliability, providing customer service, and participating in emergency drills. Successful candidates will have at least an O.S.S.D. or equivalent, be service-oriented, and work in various weather conditions. The position is seasonal and based in Canada, Ontario, Gananoque.

Position Summary

Hornblower Group is a global leader in experiences and transportation. The Marine Technician, Level II will maintain a safe, diligent operation and maintenance of the engines, generators, engine room and all compartments including washrooms, provide overall ship maintenance, and assist and oversee passenger loading and unloading.

Note this is a seasonal/contract position

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide amazing hospitality to guests and coworkers as prescribed in our RESPECT Service.
  • Follow safety procedures to ensure the protection of passengers and the vessel.
  • Handle lines to moor vessels to pier when necessary.
  • Maintain engines, generators, engine room and all compartments including washrooms.
  • Frequent inspection of machinery and bathrooms to ensure proper operating conditions.
  • Manage the replacement of any machinery and plumbing when required.
  • Add fresh water to vessel and pump out waste during vessel service.
  • Monitor battery levels, fluid, and clean strainers regularly.
  • Maintain a clean and safe engine room (clean spills, drips, and leaks) and report issues to the master.
  • Record observations in logbook and relay any changes in readings, levels, or condition to the master.
  • Ensure safe and reliable operation of all vessels, systems, machinery and equipment under care with due regard for SMS and watchkeeping standards.
  • Inspect all areas of vessels, stages, dock and marine railway for unsafe conditions and assist in accident investigations and reports.
  • Participate in emergency drills in accordance with Transport Canada regulations and SMS.
  • Participate in navigational training and steerage to develop new opportunities.
  • Sweep, mop and wash down decks and exterior to remove dirt and debris using brooms, mops, brushes, and hoses.
  • Load or unload materials from vessels; gather and remove trash from vessel.
  • Service, clean, and supply restrooms.
  • Be prepared to begin work at scheduled time.
  • Maintain uniform and personal grooming in compliance with appearance standards.
  • Perform additional job duties as assigned.
Requirements & Qualifications
  • O.S.S.D. or equivalent as recognized by the Ministry of Education.
  • Marine Emergency Duties training certificate (training provided).
  • Qualified passport required to enter the United States.
  • Ability to understand and convey written and verbal information to guests and coworkers.
  • Service orientation – actively looking for ways to help others.
  • Energetic and enthusiastic personality.
  • Wear assigned PPE (non‑slip shoes, gloves, weather‑appropriate attire, sun protection) when required.
  • Walk, stand, sit and work in all weather conditions for extended periods.
  • Reach, bend, stoop, wipe, push, pull, move or lift up to 50 pounds (23 kg).
  • Available for work on all major holidays.
