Join the Digital and Information Services, Platform Delivery team as Manager, Solution Development

General Accountability

The successful candidate is responsible for leading a team across multiple delivery domains and managing complex systems development activities to support the entire software development process for SGI and SGI CANADA. Leads the development of loosely coupled business applications and establishes the tools, processes and methodologies for the development and ongoing delivery of microservices, enterprise SaaS (software as a service) applications, and integrations. Ensures application development activities achieve organizational goals for flexibility, availability, and scalability according to system requirements in adherence with corporate development standards.

Solutions Development Delivery
  • Manages the development, delivery, support and maintenance of an ecosystem of loosely coupled microservices, enterprise SaaS applications, and integrations.
  • Collaborates with internal and external partners to achieve corporate objectives and ensures alignment with other systems practice areas.
  • Champions change management activities to ensure successful incorporation of organizational changes within SGI, and realization of benefits associated with adoption.
  • Integrates long-term plans and short-term delivery with the architecture roadmaps and ensures SGI’s development and architecture standards are met.
  • Contributes to processes, methodologies and measurements to enable modern software development practices.
Research and Development
  • Oversees the research and integration of emerging features and functionality in development tools and SaaS platforms into SGI’s technical solutions.
  • Contributes to the development and insurance software trends both in general and with respect to the insurance industry.
  • Ensures the continuous improvement of SGI’s software delivery methodology by incorporating best practices and emerging trends, through maintaining awareness of software development and insurance and information technology industry trends.
  • Leads the adoption of service oriented and cloud focused application development and integration practices.
  • Works closely with the Product Owners and other IT business areas to ensure that there is a balanced approach to technology specific work being prioritized alongside the business user stories and ensures in alignment with systems Target Operating Model (TOM).
People Leadership
  • Builds a high performing workforce by actively leading human resource activities.
  • Ensures development of divisional succession plans.
  • Builds a culture of leadership and accountability to effectively deliver on strategic and corporate strategies, ensuring integration with employee performance development and career development plans.
  • Drives performance through team members and is committed to leadership development across the company, supporting employees and workforce readiness through mentoring, training and developmental opportunities.
  • Builds a customer-centric perspective for team members.
Partnership Management
  • Establishes optimal vendor contracts and partner relationships, from procurement to implementation, and as required during program and project delivery.
  • Ensures that vendor delivery (solution, services, resources) aligns to the needs of the business and the overall program.
  • Supports the architectural plan in the evaluation of vendor solutions for fit to business needs and within the broader technical environment.
  • Ensures vendor delivery aligns to the terms set forth in contracts/statements of work from a scope, quality, cost and timing perspective.
Corporate Management
  • Ensures programs and policies are in alignment with corporate, strategic and divisional strategies.
  • Manages risk in the area of authority.
  • Prepares, reviews, manages and/or approves departmental/divisional budgets.
  • Prepares decision requests, decision and/or information items and/or SGI board items.
  • Ensures that the Health, Safety and Emergency Management Policy is applied in the area of responsibility, including development, implementation and managing of program components specific to departmental health and safety requirements.
  • Makes decisions for departmental operations that are efficient, effective and in alignment with strategic direction and priorities.
  • Ensures department and program policies, procedures and guidelines are in compliance with applicable federal and provincial legislation and regulations; implements and evaluates changes to legislation and regulations in the area of authority.
  • Establishes and maintains an effective system of internal controls to support reliable financial reporting and compliance in accordance with applicable laws and regulations within the span of control and communicates the importance of internal controls to staff.
Education and Experience
  • A four-year degree from an accredited post-secondary education institution in a relevant field of study such as Information Technology, Mathematics & Applied Science or Business.
  • Eight years’ experience comprised of four years of leadership and four years’ experience as a leader or project manager in the design and delivery of large systems to support business operations.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of business processes, procedures, practices and how they interact to support business operations.
  • Knowledge of IT industry and Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC) best practices and industry standards.
  • Knowledge of systems architecture principles, best practices and industry standards.
  • Knowledge of program and agile project management methodologies and techniques required to plan, manage and execute programs and projects.
  • Knowledge of the services provided by the business and partner agencies and associations.
  • Knowledge of demand and resource planning and people management.
  • Knowledge of vendor management processes and best practices.
  • Skill in developing proposals and presenting recommendations.

Pay Range: $109,052.00 - $145,411.00
