Position Overview

Position Overview: Reporting to the Director of Human Resources for IMP Aerospace & Defence, the Manager, Occupational Health and Safety is responsible for the ongoing development and continuous improvement of the Occupational health and safety program throughout I.M.P. Aerospace & MOB's, while providing OHS assistance and support to other IMP group Divisions.

What You Will Do
  • Provide consultative leadership and guidance in the promotion of a healthy and safe workplace to management, employees and OH&S staff.
  • Monitor compliance with Company policies and procedures relating to occupational health, safety and environmental matters.
  • Develop, monitor and evaluate occupational wellness and safety programs to ensure compliance with applicable legislation and regulations.
  • Audit the effectiveness of health and safety practices through regular, periodic inspections, and follow up on deficiencies as required.
  • Identify and evaluate existing and potential areas of risk generated throughout I.M.P.s operations.
  • Perform investigations into major accidents and incidents.
  • Analyze accident trends and work closely with stakeholders to develop programs/measures to reduce accidents.
  • Prepare health and safety status reports on current programs and activities.
  • Act as the company liaison with applicable provincial and federal regulatory agencies.
  • Attend joint occupational health and safety & policy committee meetings and provide assistance, where required.
  • Recommend improvements to existing health and safety programs.
  • Liaise with the training department to ensure delivery of applicable training and educational programs to all employees.
  • Research and keep current with health and safety legislative requirements.
  • Other projects as directed.
What You Will Bring
  • University degree or equivalent with 7-10 years of relevant experience (5 years of which are in a managerial capacity). Experience in an industrial unionized environment preferred.
  • Accredited health and safety certification
  • Canadian registered safety professional certification is an asset.
  • Proven ability to manage and mentor employees.
  • Experience with WHIMIS, dangerous goods, first aid and CPR.
  • Working knowledge of all Canadian OH&S legislation, applicable CSA Standards, etc.
  • Knowledge of appropriate government legislation and policies as they relate to health and safety and the environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with people at all levels of the Company, and build positive working relationships.
  • The ability to listen effectively, understand the business unit needs and work independently in a systematic, detailed manner are essential characteristics.
  • Strong organizational skills are essential.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively within a team environment.
  • Computer literate.
  • Strong time management and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Internal customer focused to achieve results under multiple conflicting priorities and time pressures.
  • Ability to travel
  • Demonstrate a personal commitment to IMP Occupational Health, Safety and Environment policies. Continually focusing on your individual safety and the safety of others who may be affected by your work and to fully comply with all Federal Health and Safety Legislation.
  • Participate in Continuous Improvement, Lean & 8S activities in your area.
  • Must be eligible to meet requirements for Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and Canadian government security clearances.
