Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express, as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. In Asset Management and Maintenance, we play a key role in ensuring the safe, reliable, and cost‑effective service of our transit system as the Metrolinx engineering technical authority and owner of more than $20 billion in assets and growing to $60 billion by 2030.

Our Maintenance Delivery Department within the Asset Management & Maintenance Division is looking for a Manager, Fault Control Signals to join the team! You will oversee the rehabilitation and maintenance of all railway signal infrastructure and associated assets, managing railway signal contractors, overseeing capital rehabilitation projects, and liaising with host railway companies, government agencies and authorities to ensure a safe and reliable system.

What will I be doing?
  • Plan, develop, manage, and implement the maintenance and capital rehabilitation contracts from initiation required for signal and communications systems along the owned railway corridor to support customer service and revenue generation objectives.
  • Recommend infrastructure improvement programs for host railways and owned rail corridor assets.
  • Oversee contractor compliance with contract provisions, and monitor contractor compliance with safety, quality, environmental, budgeted costs, and schedule performance.
  • Oversee and manage Metrolinx signal specialists, supporting functions for Rail Traffic Control Systems, Field to Office signals and communication assets.
  • Participate in contract negotiations with rail corridor asset management providers to ensure services encompass all necessary provisions and contingencies, cost effectiveness, and safe practices.
  • Establish, prioritize, and control signal rehabilitation programs to ensure regulatory compliance and minimize transit schedule delays resulting from adverse signal infrastructure conditions.
  • Manage and monitor capital and operating budget and expenditures allocated to signals and communications corridor rehabilitation and maintenance program.
What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?
  • A university degree in Engineering, Business, Transportation Planning, or a related discipline – or a combination of education, training and experience deemed equivalent.
  • Demonstrated experience in the rehabilitation and maintenance of railway signal infrastructure and associated assets or related experience deemed equivalent.
  • Knowledge of project management principles and practices, including budget and schedule controls, to lead and direct cross‑functional teams and consultants, ensuring adherence to timelines and project performance objectives.
  • Experience with vendor management to manage development and delivery of externally/internally provided products and services.
  • Leadership skills to motivate a team and set high standards and clear expectations.
  • Interpersonal and analytical oral/written/presentation and negotiation skills to work with internal/external stakeholders and manage contractor compliance with contract stipulations.
  • Proficiency in the use of MS Office, project management software and computer applications are essential.
  • An on‑call rotation is required to support operational needs; a potential for various shifts may be required for work.
  • A valid Class “G” driver’s licence in good standing is required.
Working Conditions

This role entails a combination of field and office work. The position requires working 12‑hour shifts, rotating days and nights every two weeks.
