George Jeffrey Children's Centre is a paediatric health facility in Thunder Bay, Ontario providing occupational therapy, physiotherapy, speech-language pathology, social work, recreation and behaviour support services to children and youth with physical, communication and developmental needs. With a staff committed to enriching lives by delivering specialized rehabilitative and interprofessional services, this is your opportunity to work alongside a dedicated client-centred paediatric health care team.

The Manager, Clinical Services (the Manager) is a key contributing member of GJCC's leadership team. The Manager provides direction, supervision and leadership for inter / multi-disciplinary staff that provide program services and supports GJCC's growth strategies, while ensuring the achievement of service standards and clinical targets.

Current Portfolio includes School Years Services (occupational therapy, physiotherapy, speech-language pathology), Augmentative Communication Program, Seating & Mobility Program, Recreation & Leisure

Key Responsibilities

Accountability for Results

  • Responsible for the management of the day-to-day functioning of assigned programs and services
  • Effectively present and communicate information relating to operational needs and initiatives to staff and management
  • Identify service trends / developments in the external environment
  • Make recommendations for program improvement and lead implementation
  • Plan, evaluate and monitor program financial and operational performance and ensure cost-effective processes and procedures are in place / implemented
  • Oversee appropriate scheduling / staffing / skill mix for clinical service provision
  • Monitor and report on metrics of service delivery related assigned programs

Leadership and People Management

  • Lead and motivate staff and subsequently recognize staff who are highly engaged with the team and GJCC as a whole
  • Identify and address staffing needs, in conjunction with Human Resources
  • Participate in recruitment and selection processes, in collaboration with Human Resources
  • Provide coaching and performance management of assigned staff, including the ongoing evaluation of performance and the development of skills and competencies required to achieve goals
  • Coach and manage staff with performance issues and consult appropriately with Human Resources
  • Delegate responsibility and decision-making to appropriate individuals and teams
  • Identify skills and / or knowledge gaps relative to clinical service delivery needs
  • Provide opportunities and support staff education and development.
  • Establish an effective program specific onboarding process, and set performance expectations of new staff
  • Facilitate and maintain program specific team development
  • Quality Service Management

  • Ensure standardized systems and procedures are in place and adhered to in order to facilitate excellence in quality services
  • Manage high risk issues and manage / conduct complaint and incident investigations relating to client / staff issues
  • Coach operations team members to develop appropriate risk management action plans
  • Work closely with the Leadership Team to support new business initiatives and ongoing business contract requirements and provide support to RFP contract development as required
  • Inform the development of strategic directions
  • Identify, establish and maintain key community partnerships within the local region
  • To be considered for this position, candidates should meet the following criteria :

  • Master's degree in a health-related discipline, business management, or related fields. Bachelor degree will be considered with additional professional development and demonstrated leadership experience.
  • Registration and / or affiliation with a relevant professional regulatory body or college
  • Minimum three (3)-years' progressive leadership development and or experience working in a managerial capacity
  • Knowledge of healthcare including provincial initiatives, policy and applicable legislation and related regulations
  • Valid Ontario Driver's Licence and access to a reliable personal vehicle
  • Willingness to travel
  • Demonstrated success in leading, coaching and mentoring others
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills, using a variety of formats and directed to a range of audiences. Comfortable presenting to a range of audiences
  • Excellent planning, organizational, research, analytical skills inclusive of data analysis and critical-thinking skills
  • Regarded with trust and respect; ability to work collaboratively with community and partner agencies
  • Possess knowledge of evidence-based practice, clinical best practices and outcome-based evaluation.
