Job Overview

Working under minimal supervision, the Manager, Capital Management is responsible for all facets related to capital management, ensuring compliance with requirements and standards, while leading the Capital Management department.

Job Responsibilities
Regulatory Capital & Modeling
  • Develop and maintain models to calculate Life Insurance Capital Adequacy Test (LICAT) regulatory capital requirements and report on changes in these requirements.
Financial Analysis & Reporting
  • Lead the production of annual Financial Condition Testing (FCT) and support the budgeting process.
  • Prepare and communicate quarterly reporting on variances from budget and IFRS 17 impacts, providing clear analysis and insights to stakeholders.
  • Manage quarterly Segregated Fund valuation and ensure accuracy and timeliness of reporting.
Leadership & Team Management
  • Manage and develop direct reports by providing professional and technical guidance, coaching, and regular performance reviews.
Strategic & Special Projects
  • Execute special projects and other duties as assigned by the Director of Life Capital and Actuarial Support, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
Qualifications
  • Undergraduate university degree in Actuarial Mathematics, Statistics, Mathematics, or other related field of study.
  • Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries, complying with continuing education requirements.
  • 5 years of actuarial work experience with 3 years related to capital management, financial reporting, ALM, or IFRS 9/17.
  • Extensive knowledge of the life insurance industry and insurance operations in general.
  • Excellent computer skills including extensive knowledge of word and excel.
  • Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills with the ability to understand context and its impact on all issues.
  • Ability to work independently and identify potential impacts of decisions.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal, with the ability to deliver powerful presentations.
  • Ability to work and complete large complex projects with multiple contributing parties.
  • Strong leadership skills an asset.
