A challenging and rewarding opportunity exists at East Edmonton Health Centre (EEHC) for the role of Manager-Urgent Care Centre. Reporting to the Site Director – East Edmonton Health Centre, Northeast Community Health Centre and Strathcona Community Hospital, the Manager – Urgent Care Centre is a key leadership role that is responsible and accountable for direction, team leadership and organization over the operational activities & functions of the Urgent Care Centre at East Edmonton Health Centre while supporting the vision, mission and business plan of Alberta Health Services.
The Manager is accountable for the operational management of the Urgent Care Centre. This role is also an active member of the site leadership team, and has a key responsibility of promoting optimal, safe and effective patient care. As the Urgent Care Manager you will be responsible for providing leadership to an interdisciplinary team of healthcare professionals dedicated to providing leading care to those in our community. In this leadership position, you will be making key decisions and contributing to the achievements and goals of the department as well as responsible for developing and maintaining a strong working relationship with key stakeholders, facilitating change management and promoting team development. The Manager is also responsible for participating in strategic planning and identifying budget requirements (human, material and capital resources) in order to safely meet patient needs. The position is also responsible for: establishing and maintaining standards of practice; hiring and developing staff and the management of expenditures and variance analysis of an operational budget. The Manager establishes and maintains collaborative working relationships with the site leadership team, site medical leads and other AHS program teams to ensure that quality care is provided.
Bachelor’s degree in nursing with a minimum of 5 years clinical experience, and at least 3 years of experience in a leadership role. Requires strong management and leadership skills. Requires highly developed decision making, negotiation, communication and conflict management, analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent writing skills required and ability to respond to short timelines. Proven current clinical nursing skills in selected areas of practice and a solid understanding of quality and patient safety. Proven ability to develop and lead teams. A strong track record in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders is also necessary. Demonstrated advocacy for Patient and Family Centered Care.
A minimum of 3 years’ clinical experience in an Urgent Care, Emergency, Critical care or Acute environment. A minimum of 3 years leadership/management experience in an acute healthcare clinical setting. Experience in a complex health care organization is required. Current certification in CPR is required. Active licensure in good standing with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA).
Masters Degree is preferred. Management development training courses or demonstrated continuing education such as Leaders in Care are recommended. Course work in financial management is desirable. ACLS, PALS, TNCC, NRP are an asset, as well as advanced preparation in ED or ICU. Equivalencies of education and experience will be considered.
