Job summary

A government agency in Mission, British Columbia is seeking a truck driver responsible for transporting goods and performing vehicle maintenance. Ideal candidates will have a Class 1 or A driver's license and be capable of driving in mountainous conditions. This position requires physical capability and a valid driver's license. Ongoing training will be provided as needed.

Qualifications

  • Driver's License (Class 1 or A) is mandatory.
  • Experience with tractor-trailer required.
  • Candidates must pass a criminal record check and drug test.

Responsibilities Tasks
  • Plan or adjust routes based on changing conditions, using computer equipment, global positioning systems (GPS) equipment, or other navigation devices, to minimize fuel consumption and carbon emissions
  • Mountain driving expertise
  • Drive as part of a two-person team or convoy
  • Operate and drive straight or articulated trucks to transport goods and materials
  • Oversee condition of vehicle and inspect tires, lights, brakes, cold storage and other equipment
  • Perform brake adjustments
  • Perform emergency roadside repairs
  • Perform pre-trip, en route and post-trip inspection and oversee all aspects of vehicle
  • Perform preventive maintenance
  • Receive and relay information to central dispatch
  • Record cargo information, hours of service, distance travelled and fuel consumption
  • Tarping and ensuring safety and security of cargo
