LCMM – Marine Electrical Specialist

Position Summary

Thales Canada is looking for a Life Cycle and Materiel Manager (LCMM) - Marine Electrical Specialist to support its non-Combatant In-Service Support Programs for the Royal Canadian Navy. The LCMM – Marine Electrical Specialist is responsible for engineering support and technical oversight of Electrical Systems including Power Generation, Distribution, Propulsion, Electronic, Automation and Controls Systems. This role is accountable to the Technical Services Delivery Manager and works with internal and external stakeholders to establish and maintain the configuration and design intent of electrical systems and equipment through end-of-life and divestment. The successful candidate will become a subject matter expert and main point of contact for all technical matters associated with the systems assigned, with the objective of maximizing effectiveness and efficiency while minimizing Life Cycle Cost (LCC).

Responsibilities
  • Perform Life Cycle and Materiel Management functions including equipment obsolescence, material compatibility issues, alternate part investigations, maintenance management, and disposal management.
  • Support and manage activities related to the design and configuration control of vessels, including functional and physical configuration audits and deviations/waivers documentation.
  • Provide technical advice to enable electrical and electronic equipment and/or systems to be correctly operated or maintained.
  • Monitor system and equipment performance through reports such as Unsatisfactory Condition Reports (UCRs), Pre-installation failures (PIFs) and technical investigations (TIs) conducted by the customer.
  • Ensure proper spares levels are maintained and support the cataloguing process.
  • Conduct technical investigations into problems with marine electrical and electronic systems, equipment and/or software, including failure analysis and solution recommendations.
  • Develop and review technical documentation including equipment specifications, installation and maintenance instructions, test and trials agendas, and engineering change documentation and drawings.
  • Analyze requirements for baseline changes to ship configuration, equipment and software.
  • Liaise with OEMs, Service Providers and ship staff to support investigation and resolution of defects.
  • Prepare documented work scopes suitable for soliciting quotations from external resources such as OEMs, manufacturers, suppliers, testing facilities or specialist service providers; prepare and manage Work Packages and cost estimates for customer approval.
Minimum Requirements
  • 3-year technical program diploma (Technologist) or 2-year technical program diploma (Technician) in a marine electrical technical field from a recognized technical institute; or
  • Certified as a technologist or technician by a recognized licensing body in a relevant field; or
  • Certified as one of the following electrical technical trades of the Canadian Armed Forces: RQPO2 or RQPO2USQ Marine Technician Electrical; QL 6A or 6B Marine Electrician.
  • Possess a minimum 8 years of demonstrated professional work experience in the naval, marine, or offshore industry within the last 15 years.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Familiar with electrical safety standards.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Minimum 10 years of experience as a Technical Specialist with marine power generation and distribution systems.
  • Previous experience with the Royal Canadian Navy or Canadian Coast Guard; Previous experience as a Life Cycle Materiel Manager in the marine electrical field.
  • Demonstrated project management experience.
  • Familiar with Integrated Platform Management System (IPMS) and the Department of National Defense (DND) maintenance management and DRMIS.
  • Experience in delivering marine in-service support of operational assets.
  • Familiar with certification requirements including Classification Society, SOLAS/IMO, IEEE, CSA, Naval Ship Code, and DND regulations.
Physical Demands
  • Predominantly office work, with occasional travel to dockyards and aboard Naval ships.
  • May involve inspections on Naval ships including bending, twisting, and working aloft.
Special Position Requirements
  • Schedule: 40 hours per week.
  • Travel: Occasional domestic or international travel may be required in support of the ships.
Compensation

The anticipated Total Target Compensation (TTC), inclusive of annual salary and bonus eligibility, for this role is $76,208.54 - $128,924 CAD annually. The Company reserves the right to pay more or less than the posted range and to offer additional benefits depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s status protected by local, provincial, and federal laws.
