Role Summary :
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Legal Counsel to join our team. This role will act as corporate legal counsel, providing legal support across multiple areas of the business, with a primary focus on employment and labour, litigation, and legal operations.
This role reports to the General Counsel & Corporate Secretary. This role is an hybrid role based in the company’s offices in Mississauga, Ontario.
Key Responsibilities :
Responsible for day-to-day employment and labour law matters, across various areas of the business, including reviewing and negotiating employment and labour agreements. Responsible for staying current and ensuring company compliance with laws, regulations and policy related to labour, employment and related legislation and policy updates in all jurisdictions of the business. Providing training and advice, and process optimization as needed. Assisting the People & Culture team in collective bargaining and union matters and managing external counsel in labour and employment matters.
Responsible for supporting and managing day-to-day litigation and dispute matters. Assisting the General Counsel to maintain the company litigation report, manage external litigation counsel, and support the general counsel and crisis team in risk and compliance-related matters.
Handling for day-to-day legal operations and process optimization for legal processes, standardizations, automations and tools (including the contract lifecycle management system), in collaboration with the Legal Co-ordinator and oversight of the General Counsel. Providing related advice and training.
Responsible for assisting the General Counsel and coordinating with external counsel on other general assignments as needed, reviewing preliminary advice and providing internal recommendations.
What You Bring :
Law Degree (J.D. or LL.B.) from an accredited law school
Called to the Bar of Ontario
2-3 years experience in the legal department of a large company or a top tier law firm
Experience practicing corporate commercial law, employment or labour law, drafting and reviewing contracts, and negotiating, advising and / or representing parties in litigation maters
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
Additional Skills (Not Required, Considered Assets) :
Called to the bar or educated in laws of British Columbia and / or Quebec
Working knowledge of French (written and / or spoken)
Prior in-house experience
Experience or exposure to legal operations, contract lifecycle management systems, use of AI for legal work
Previous experience advising in industries regulated by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario

Compensation : Budgeted Range – $101,355.00 - $131,165.00
The budgeted range takes into account several factors and qualifications that are considered in making compensation decisions including experience, education, training, licenses, certifications, and other business and organizational requirements. Base pay is only one component of the total rewards offering at Arterra.
