Overview

Be among the first 25 applicants for a temporary assignment at the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB). This position is open to all offices, up to 6 months, with potential travel within Ontario for in-office days, training or events. In-office days are typically held monthly. WSIB is establishing a new head office in London, with preference to candidates located in this region.

Job Summary

As a learning experience design and development expert, you will collaborate with clients, stakeholders, and colleagues to plan, design and develop learner-centric learning experiences. You will apply design thinking and adult learning principles to create learning solutions that increase engagement, retention, develop capabilities, improve time to proficiency, and aid knowledge transfer to achieve business outcomes.

Major Duties And Responsibilities
  • Provide workplace learning performance advice and expertise in scoping, planning and creating learning strategies that balance client goals, business needs and technology considerations by establishing relationships with clients and partners, articulating technical concepts in plain language.
  • Advise on the selection of appropriate learning modalities, media, methods and delivery channels to deliver learning and assess learner performance and proficiency.
  • Maintain knowledge of instructional design trends, learning technologies, and best practices, and apply them to learning and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Provide workplace learning and performance guidance to WSIB on learning best practices, learning experience design and technical writing.
  • Contribute to learning design and development standards, templates, processes, and project plans with timelines and milestones; lead execution to ensure timely delivery and reporting.
  • Apply design thinking for learning needs analysis and technology needs assessment through client meetings, focus groups, interviews, surveys and observations; create learner personas and experience maps.
  • Write performance-based learning objectives and work with subject matter experts to translate knowledge into effective learning products and experiences.
  • Curate content, assess and customize existing learning resources, and organize relevant artefacts for instructional design efficacy and user experience.
  • Design and develop cohesive end-to-end learning experiences (journeys, programs, curricula, courses) with clear evaluation plans and technical architecture.
  • Develop new or modify existing learning products using various modalities (virtual / in-person instructor-led training, self-paced learning, eLearning, simulations, podcasts, videos, etc.) and media, ensuring engagement and effectiveness.
  • Utilize authoring tools (e.g., Articulate 360, Adobe Creative Suite, Camtasia, Microsoft 365) and deliver through learning portals, LMS, and repositories; create facilitator guides, materials, and performance support tools.
  • Prototype designs, coordinate user testing, and iterate based on feedback using rapid, agile development techniques.
  • Incorporate appropriate audiovisual elements and ensure alignment with brand and learning standards; perform detailed quality assurance on own and others’ work.
  • Design measurement and evaluation plans (surveys, assessments, quizzes, etc.) and collaborate on post-learning results analysis to measure reaction, learning and transfer of learning.
  • Support implementation by designing train-the-trainer sessions, planning rollout, publishing content to portals and LMS, and assisting facilitators and learners with technology issues.
  • Maintain and update learning content to ensure it remains current and aligned to business processes and outcomes; track changes and communicate updates.
  • Champion inclusive design and accessibility, mitigating risks and ensuring accessible learning experiences in line with AODA standards.
  • Act as a change agent for design thinking and WSIB change initiatives, supporting staff in adapting to organizational or legislative changes.
  • Perform other related duties as required or assigned.
Qualifications

Education

University completion at undergraduate level with specialization in education, adult education or instructional design, or undergraduate degree with a diploma / certificate in workplace learning / adult education, instructional design, eLearning development, graphic design or UX design.

Experience

Five years of experience in instructional design and / or learning experience design and / or learning development, and / or design thinking and learning management systems.
