Job description
Lead Hand – Truck & Coach Technician / Mechanic

Winnipeg, MB

Full-Time | Monday–Friday | Day Shift | 40 hrs./week

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Leadership:

  • Communicate with the Service Writer and Service Manager to review job schedules, progress updates, assign work, address and update customer
  • Lead and mentor a team of technicians and apprentices, ensuring they are completing jobs on schedule, and they are meeting quality and efficiency targets
  • Collaboration with Branch Manager on apprenticeship experience and skills progress
  • Conduct toolbox safety talks with team daily
  • Maintain employer/employee confidentiality
  • Communicate and collaborate with training and development team on areas of opportunity with team members individually
Repairs & Maintenance

(The Lead Hand is required to be billable for up to 75% of their hours)

  • Conduct and complete safety inspections
  • Perform troubleshooting, mechanical repairs and PDIs (pre-delivery inspections) on a variety of heavy equipment represented by JJE
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose issues with custom niche equipment
  • Conduct repairs in a timely and effective manner, communicating effectively with the Service Writer and Parts team to ensure optimal efficiency
  • Conduct regular preventative maintenance tasks and inspections
  • Maintain organized and safe work area and shop tools
Health & Safety Responsibilities
  • Model safe work practices and ensure team adherence to health and safety policies.
  • Identify and report workplace hazards promptly to prevent incidents.
  • Support safety training efforts and enforce proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Assist in documenting and responding to workplace incidents and near misses.
  • Act as a point of contact for escalating safety concerns and sharing updates with the team.
What You Bring

  • 5+ years of experience preferred
  • Strong knowledge of hydraulic and electrical systems
