Bring your Legal Expertise to our General Counsel’s Office.
CPA Ontario is seeking a dedicated Law Clerk to join the Office of the General Counsel (OGC), contributing to the delivery of high-impact legal, business, and strategic support. In this collaborative role, the Law Clerk will help ensure CPA Ontario’s initiatives are advanced with precision, efficiency, and value, empowering the organization to achieve its goals and uphold its mandate.
Responsibilities
- Managing key elements of the CPA Ontario Annual General Meeting including the Council elections process, supporting the Council Governance & Nominating Committee and managing the CPA Ontario Foundation Member, Board and Investment Committee meetings.
- Administering the process to update and maintain governing documents including By-laws, CPA Code of Professional Conduct, Regulations and Public Accounting Standards.
- Maintaining the corporate records and filings of CPA Ontario and the CPA Ontario Foundation, maintaining department records and managing CPA Ontario’s intellectual property portfolio.
- Administering the process to protect the CPA and legacy designations against misuse by non-members.
- Providing general legal and regulatory support to the lawyers in OGC and the Foundation Executive Director and providing project management support on OGC business initiatives.
Qualifications
- A post-secondary graduate with a university degree in Business or a related discipline and / or a Law Clerk diploma from a recognized Ontario college combined with 5 years of corporate / commercial, legal or regulatory experience in a legal department.
- An excellent communicator (verbal and written) with strong legal writing abilities. Also able to research matters thoroughly and effectively communicate and apply the results.
- Skilled at reading and understanding business and legal documents and able to handle administrative tasks with ease with a keen eye for detail.
- Able to demonstrate a strong appreciation for the confidential nature of legal and regulatory work, consistently exhibiting maturity and exercising tact, diplomacy and discretion in all interactions while building and maintaining trusted relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- A highly organized professional, able to manage multiple tasks, meet competing deadlines and prioritize work in a fast-paced environment.
- Technically savvy and knowledgeable in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Adobe Acrobat, SharePoint and Teams and ideally have experience with Salesforce and Power BI.
