The Ontario Nurses’ Association (ONA) is Canada’s largest nurses’ union. We are powered by our members — 68,000 nurses and health-care professionals, and 18,000 nursing student affiliates — who provide care in hospitals, long-term care, public health, the community, clinics and industry. Our mission is to defend the rights of and advocate for nurses and health-care professionals who care for the health of Ontarians. We empower members and fight against unfair and unsafe treatment, negotiate and enforce our contracts, offer benefits and insurance, provide tailored education and development opportunities, and much more. We confront governments, administrations, and other policymakers head-on to fight for high-quality public health care.

ONA is seeking to hire a Labour Relations Officer on our Member Education Team (MET). Reporting to the Senior Manager, Member Education / Anti Racism and Anti Oppression, the successful candidate will be responsible for providing learning solutions that align with organizational and membership policies, the membership strategic plan, and meet the needs of ONA members.

This role involves designing, delivering, monitoring, and evaluating provincial education initiatives. Key responsibilities include:

  • Designing, assessing, and updating course curriculum and educational programs in compliance with the membership strategic plan and operational standards.
  • Planning, delivering, and evaluating all learning sessions, workshops, and presentations to ensure they meet learning objectives.
  • Collaborating to develop and implement communication frameworks to inform members and staff of scheduled workshops.
  • Creating education evaluation processes, including feedback loops for service teams and members.
  • Identifying skill, knowledge, and resource gaps as needed.
  • Recognizing risks and opportunities related to ONA meeting strategic priorities and goals.
  • Modifying learning plans and content based on feedback and current best practices, in line with organizational, legislative, and other changes.
  • Partnering with other teams to understand and support their needs, including assessing database needs in collaboration with the IT team.
  • Developing new and relevant content for education and workshops with subject matter experts.
  • Developing, evaluating, and facilitating staff orientation/onboarding programs.

What we are looking for

  • A degree or diploma as a Registered Health Professional and/or in Labour/Industrial Relations.
  • Post-secondary education in Adult Education, or actively pursuing such a designation, is preferred.
  • Certificate in Project Management is an asset.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in needs-based educational program development, design, and implementation.
  • Experience in designing, facilitating, and managing organizational initiatives to achieve specific outcomes.
  • A demonstrated focus on providing innovative solutions to meet members' needs.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, with proven presentation and group facilitation skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and basic knowledge of database applications.
  • Bilingual in English and French is an asset.

The candidate must be able to travel, possess a valid driver’s license, and have access to a vehicle for business use. Interested candidates may apply via ONA Jobs by 4:30 p.m. on August 27, 2025. The Ontario Nurses’ Association is committed to employment equity.
