Overview

We are seeking an experienced Lab Supervisor for a well established optical manufacturing client in Delta. This position will oversee a team of lab techs in a fast paced environment. This role has complete accountability on a day-to-day basis for edging, quality control and workflow planning for all frame to follow internal and 3rd party jobs, with a high focus on quality standards and manufacturing lead-times. It emphasizes a high level of autonomy and independence and requires promptly addressing any quality or operational issues by reporting them to the Customer Service Supervisor as soon as they arise.

Responsibilities
  • Supervise and coordinate laboratory operations by overseeing day-to-day activities in the manufacturing lab, ensuring a smooth workflow, and collaborating with team members to achieve production targets.
  • Perform quality checks on optical components and finished products to verify compliance with specified company standards and promptly address the respective teams if any identified quality issues.
  • Maintain and calibrate optical manufacturing equipment to achieve precise and consistent results, troubleshooting equipment malfunctions, and arranging for necessary repairs.
  • Provide training and guidance to lab technicians, ensuring adherence to standard operating procedures and safety protocols, and fostering professional development within the team including performance management, and maintain records of time / attendance and key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Establish or adjust work assignments as needed to meet daily production targets.
  • Coordinate with the customer service team to ensure timely delivery of customer orders and provide timely feedback to the labs on quality issues for continuous improvement.
  • Maintain regular communication with the Customer Service Supervisor to discuss process improvements.
  • Perform duties in compliance with health and safety standards and procedures and participate in improvement initiatives to support continuous improvement philosophy.
  • Take responsibility for all incoming and outgoing jobs in the lab and promote company safety policies to ensure a secure working environment.
  • Effectively communicating with the stores to resolve any conflicts and disputes regarding the tolerances, quality, and rejected returns.
  • Logging ServiceNow tickets with IT and working closely with them on the resolution.
  • Placing special orders with the 3rd party labs.
  • Working closely with internal and external labs to raise and resolve quality issues.
  • Complete any other tasks in line with the company policies as requested by Customer Service Supervisor.
  • Processing lab error credits
  • This involves receiving jobs from stores to BCDC that fail to meet quality standards. Upon arrival at BCDC, these jobs are assessed against company quality standards and either approved or rejected by CS advisor accordingly.
  • Explaining the stores the reason of rejects, where applicable.
  • Warranty Claims Processing
  • Maintain inventory of lab consumables and coordinate procurement to avoid shortages or delays.
  • Monitor lab efficiency metrics and prepare periodic reports to aid decision-making.
  • Participate in audits and ensure documentation is always audit-ready.
