Job summary

A leading shipbuilding company in Halifax seeks a Systems Security Engineer to design security processes and tools for shipbuilding. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's in engineering and 0-6 years of relevant experience. Responsibilities include supervising project deliverables, reviewing technical plans, and providing cybersecurity input in designs. This full-time position requires in-office presence and compliance with Canadian security regulations.

Qualifications

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s in engineering (or equivalent).
  • 0–6 years' experience applying standards with guidance; exposure to marine or shipbuilding fields through work or academics.
  • Understand shipyard disciplines (structures, piping, propulsion, HVAC, electrical, manufacturing) and cybersecurity basics.
  • Read technical drawings, work in 3D models, and assist with data analysis and investigations.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills under supervision.
  • Clear verbal and written communication with stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and collaborate in cross-functional teams.

Due to the nature of work Irving Shipbuilding does, all successful applicants must meet requirements for the Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), Canadian Government Security clearance, and U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).

Please note this position requires a full-time, in-office presence.

Responsibilities
  • Originate, under the close supervision of a licensed P.Eng, routine or low complexity deliverables in the Systems Security Engineering area.
  • Review and raise comments against technical plans, reports and work products developed by internal & external stakeholders.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement within the Systems Security Engineering area and the broader Security discipline across the business.
  • Provide technical input into the design of ship security systems, and cybersecurity input into the design of ship systems.
  • Provide oversight and management of subcontractors and the work they perform towards project milestones and objectives.
