Overview

Propak Systems Ltd. is an established leader in engineering fabrication and construction of gas compression processing and heavy oil facilities. By integrating comprehensive engineering services and first-in-class modular fabrication capacity with complete construction services Propak designs and builds industry-leading hydrocarbon processing facilities for installation around the world. We engineer and build natural gas processing facilities, compression facilities and heavy oil in-situ processing facilities.

Job Summary

Working within the Quality Department where work instructions will be provided with direct reporting to Quality Control Managers. The incumbents work is reviewed at several steps along the way for accuracy. The Quality Control Inspector Junior is responsible for quality assurance or control in the assigned project area(s). The position ensures QA / QC requirements including inspection and testing of in progress and completed systems and installations follow established parameters.

The Quality Control Inspector performs inspection activities on construction activities against submitted quality control plans, maintains inspection and surveillance records including follow-up and accepts or rejects work. The position typically has good working knowledge of NDE materials and welding requirements.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Follow the Inspection and Test Plans (ITP) by inspecting the project through the phases of manufacturing and construction.
• Record inspection findings as conforming to specifications and not conforming to specifications.
• Review shop drawings and weld procedures.
• Interpret NDR results and report on findings.
• Review technical reports and specifications.
• Distribute documentation to Quality Control Document Control in a timely manner.
• Complete tasks and responsibilities as assigned.
• The ability to work overtime may be required.

Prerequisites

Education

• Qualification CSA Level 1 with CSA W178.1 W47.1 W59 and B31.3 endorsement (WET Program)

Experience

• 1â2 years of experience working in a pressure vessel / piping environment depending on classification level
• Fundamental knowledge of quality principles
• Basic level of competency in relevant MS Office Programs

Other

• 4 days -10 hours shift Night / weekend shift with 10% shift premium differential
• 90 days probation to permanent full time after probation

Relationships

The Quality Control Inspector will be interacting with a variety of personnel both internal to PROPAK and external to PROPAK. The following list identifies such interactions but may not be limited to :

Internal

• Trades - In the area assigned to provide inspection duties the Quality Control Inspector will be involved with those trades that are working in the area completing fabrication work.
• Foremen / Supervisors - As with the trades the Quality Control Inspector will also be involved in providing updates to Foremen / Supervisors on the current quality status of the work.
• Senior Quality Control Inspectors - As part of the mentoring process and to provide additional clarification / support to inspection activities.

External

• Third-Party Inspectors - The Quality Control Inspector will be interacting with client representatives on the project. This interaction is to provide verification of the work activities and conformances leading to the Third-Party Inspector signing off on the work.

Authority Level

The Quality Control Inspector is identified as the authority on conformance to industry project and client requirements. Such authority allows the Quality Control Inspector to approve and/or reject work quality.

In such cases where there is a dispute on the inspection ruling of the Quality Control Inspector the QC Lead and/or the Quality Control Manager will provide the final ruling on the dispute.

Supervision Requirements

Dependent on the level of competency in the role the Quality Control Inspector may fall into one of the two supervision levels for the type of supervision receiving :

• Close Supervision: Work is reviewed at several steps along the way for accuracy. (Generally pertains to entry level or trainee positions.)
• Supervision: Incumbent performs standard and routine assignments independently to conclusion; unusual problems which may require exceptions to procedures or processes are referred to the supervisor. (Generally applies to journey level worker able to work independently.)

Work Environment

Specific Work Conditions

The following list outlines the typical work conditions for the position but may not be limited to :

• Working in a steel fabrication shop with noise heavy materials confined spaces heat height and industrial equipment. Health and safety compliance to the PROPAK Health and Safety Program is a condition of employment.
• Hours of work depends on the schedule. The current shifts available for the Quality Control Inspectors are 4-days at 10-hours per day and/or 4-nights at 10-hours per night and/or the weekend shift consisting of 4-days at 10-hours per day.

Physical Requirements

The position does have a physical demands analysis as part of the PROPAK Health and Safety Program. The Quality Control Inspector is required to operate within the tolerance noted on file. Some of the requirements include but are not limited to :

• Standing and sitting at times to carry out inspection and administrative work
• Climb onto project skids using a step ladder or working from man lift to perform inspection activities
• Handle small hand tools as required
• Be exposed to noise above the Occupational Exposure Limits
• Wear Personal Protective Equipment including CSA approved footwear
• Using stairs
• Exposed to slippery surfaces etc.

Performance Measures

The Quality Control Inspector will be measured against their assigned Core Competencies for the position. Additionally the quality of work including its accuracy and the way the Quality Control Inspector represents themselves to others will also be measured.

A specific CQ Report Card is completed by the Quality Control Inspector's manager in consultation with the Quality Control Inspector. This evaluation reviews the QC’s Quality Department Core Values and Commitment Pillars to help score the Quality Control Inspector's current performance. Once complete specific goals are established and monitored throughout the reporting cycle.

Goals and objectives are assigned based on the Quality Control Inspectors competency that they bring to the Quality Department at PROPAK. This is to ensure that the mentoring process is unique to the individual thereby ensuring a more successful opportunity to meet the assigned goals and objectives.

All goals and objectives assigned are tracked and monitored to help ensure the Quality Control Inspector is meeting the position requirements. Additionally the Quality Department can deploy the use of the Department SMART Goal document to help break down assigned goals and targets and monitor their progress.
