Job summary

A leading engineering firm located in Kamloops is looking for a Materials Field Technician to work in both field and laboratory settings. The role involves conducting concrete tests, soil sampling, and interacting with clients on construction sites. Candidates should have strong interpersonal skills, a valid driver's license, and testing experience is preferred. This position offers a salary between $46,800 and $58,500, with a focus on innovation and community engagement.

Qualifications

  • Must be comfortable in the field on construction project sites.
  • Must have strong people skills and ability to work with a wide variety of staff and clients.
  • Must be able to communicate (verbally/writing) in English.
  • Ideally, concrete/soils/asphalt testing experience would be advantageous.
  • Must have a valid Canadian driver's license.
  • Must have own vehicle.

  • Execute soil sampling and asphalt hot-mix sampling on site.

What a day at EXP has in store for you

The successful candidate will spend their time both in the field on construction jobsites, and in the materials laboratory completing construction materials tests.

  • Executing on-site concrete spot tests which includes: casting cylinders, slump test, air content tests and reporting
  • Executing soil sampling, asphalt hot-mix sampling on site
  • Some in-lab work, such as testing cylinders, wash-sieve analysis, Proctor test and etc
  • The technicians will interact with the on-site clients (contractors) to provide excellent service and a quick response to their testing needs
What your experience looks like
  • Must be comfortable in the field on construction project sites
  • Must have strong people skills, and ability to work with wide variety of staff and clients
  • Must be able to communicate (verbally/writing) in English
  • Ideally concrete/soils/asphalt testing experience would be advantageous
  • Strong general math skills
  • AScT designation is an asset
  • Must have a valid Canadian driver’s license
  • Must have own vehicle (mileage allowance will be provided)

The salary range for this role is between $46,800 to $58,500. The actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience, certifications, and specific work location.
