Your Role
  • Land use planning and approvals processes.
  • Plan, policy, and bylaw development.
  • Municipal and intermunicipal collaboration.
  • Engagement, communications, and facilitation.
  • Local and regional strategic planning.
  • Participating in a wide range of planning assignments including land development, community planning, policy development, and strategic planning.
  • Contributing to the development of municipal planning documents and policies, including Municipal Development Plans, Area Structure Plans, Outline Plans, zoning by-laws, etc.
  • Supporting strategic planning and community engagement sessions.
  • Proposal preparation for planning and multi-disciplinary projects.
  • Preparing written and graphic materials and layouts to support presentations, facilitations, as well as planning and strategy documents.
  • Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, legislation, and industry standards.
  • Pursue continuous professional development and maintain a high degree of discipline knowledge and awareness.
  • Work in a safe manner at all times and report all health and safety incidents and concerns.
  • Additional duties as required.
Qualifications
  • An accredited degree in Planning or closely related field. A Master’s degree is an asset.
  • 1-4 years with exposure to municipal planning, intermunicipal or regional planning, land use, or related planning experience.
  • Eligibility for Registered Professional Planner (RPP) designation. RPP designation is an asset.
  • An understanding of Alberta’s planning framework, the Municipal Government Act, and development approval processes.
  • Interest in public participation; IAP2 training is an asset.
  • Experience in Adobe Creative Suite for design, graphics, and document layout is an asset.
  • Understanding of spatial data and analysis (GIS), as well as a working knowledge of modelling software (Sketchup, CAD, Rhino, etc.) are desirable.
  • Interest in projects that are complex and have long-term impacts.
  • Ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams and build and strengthen relationships with various parties, clients, contractors, and municipal partners.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
