Journeyperson Powerline Technicians (PLT)

We are currently seeking Journeyperson Powerline Technicians (PLT) to join our growing team to support a multi year Distribution project in Central Ontario. Reporting to the Construction Foreman, PLT's are responsible for construction of overhead and underground electrical power distribution systems. This is a hands‑on leadership role where your technical ability, mentoring capacity, and commitment to safety will directly support our operations and team culture.

Please note: This position is based around Central Ontario area, and candidates must reside locally or within a reasonable commuting distance.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Erect and maintain steel / wood poles, towers, and guy wires
  • Install overhead and underground power lines, insulators, conductors, transformers, switches, and associated equipment
  • Perform conductor stringing, sagging, clipping, and dead‑ending (energized and de‑energized)
  • Execute advanced system switching tasks, including reclosers and loop feeds
  • Perform UG (underground) cable testing, terminations, and equipment installation
  • Splice, solder, and insulate conductors for connections
  • Model safe work practices and ensure crew adherence to Valard's HSE policies
  • Mentor apprentices and junior personnel in tasks, safety protocols, and equipment use
  • Conduct and review tailboards, FLHA, and daily safety checklists
  • Proficiently carry out advanced live line work procedures and teach basic live line procedures to apprentices
  • Lead or assist with job hazard assessments, fall protection plans, and critical lift plans
  • Ensure proper documentation of safety forms, inspections, and procedural compliance
  • Submit daily documentation and reports
Requirements
  • Journeyperson Powerline Technician (PLT) certification
  • 6 years of experience in the utility or electrical construction sector
  • 2 years of direct power distribution experience
  • Valid Driver's Licence (Preference for Commercial Driver's Licence) with ability to provide an acceptable Driver's Abstract
  • Proven experience leading crews and training apprentices
  • Demonstrated experience in energized work, system switching, and UG installations
  • Class 4 Rubber Glove experience
  • Strong understanding of construction and maintenance practices for distribution systems
  • Proficiency in reading construction prints and electrical schematics
  • Preference for Confined Space Certificate, UWPC, Working at Heights Cert, First Aid (CPR/AED)

This project will be a unionized worksite. Candidates must be willing to join Canadian Union of Skilled Workers (CUSW).
