Overview
Visitor Services Team Leader V – Operations Coordinator oversees the development and delivery of visitor services in the Jasper Field Unit, reporting to the Visitor Experience Manager. The role manages programs, projects, and daily operations, leads multi-functional teams, supervises staff, and collaborates with partners to ensure safe, welcoming, and well-maintained campgrounds, visitor facilities, and day-use areas. Responsibilities include implementation and ongoing assessment of standard operating procedures and the occupational health and safety program, as well as training for visitor services staff.
Responsibilities
- Oversee development and delivery of visitor services in the Jasper Field Unit.
- Manage programs, projects, and daily operations; lead multi-functional teams; supervise staff.
- Build relationships with internal and external partners to support operational goals.
- Assess visitor service needs and provide strategic advice to support operational success.
- Analyze operational costs, oversee service contracts, and manage budgets for salary and goods and services.
- Collaborate with Parks Canada colleagues to maintain safety and high standards across campgrounds, facilities, and day-use areas.
- Implement and assess standard operating procedures and the OHS program; provide training for staff.
Essential Qualifications
- Education: Degree or diploma in business administration, recreation, leisure, tourism, communication, or related discipline; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Proof of education required at interview.
- Experience: Managing visitor service programs, projects, and operations; coordinating daily activities and contracted work; establishing relationships with clients, partners, or stakeholders; supervising staff and managing performance; leading multi-functional teams; determining visitor services requirements and developing plans based on visitor trends; providing strategic advice to management. Significant experience is defined as a minimum of 2 years of managing staff and financial resources.
- Knowledge: Parks Canada Agency vision and mandate related to visitor experience and conservation; current trends in visitor services, facilities operation, and use management.
- Abilities: Manage human and financial resources; analytical thinking; planning and organization; team leadership; effective communication (oral and written).
- Personal Suitability: Effective communicator; responsible; results-driven; sound judgment; pursuit of excellence.
Operational Requirements
- Wear a Parks Canada uniform and adhere to uniform policy.
- Willingness to work irregular hours, including overtime, weekends, and holidays; sit for extended periods (50–75% of the day); able to respond to fluctuating visitor demands.

- Must obtain and maintain a reliability status and possess a valid Alberta Class 5 driver’s license or equivalent.
