A provincial government agency in Burnaby is seeking a Sr. Analytics Data Engineer to manage data integration for their mission-critical Data Warehouse and Analytics Data Platform. The successful candidate will have a degree in computer science and at least 2 years of experience, particularly in ETL, SQL, and various databases. The role may offer flexible work arrangements.
About the BCLDB: The BC Liquor Distribution Branch (LDB) is one of two branches of government that provide oversight for the beverage alcohol and non-medical cannabis industries in the province. The LDB is responsible for the wholesale distribution of liquor and cannabis, and operates the retail brands BCLIQUOR and BC Cannabis Stores.

LDB’s Information Technology (IT) team consists of 7 competency areas: Customer Experience, Infrastructure & Operations (I&O), Information Security, Enterprise Architecture, Software Services, Data Services, and IT Program Governance. Currently 4 divisions managed by IT Directors collectively are responsible for all of the 7 competency areas to deliver the IT mandate of supporting LDB’s corporate and business operations and enabling future needs and initiatives.
At present, the IT team consists of more than 260 full-time employees and includes a sourcing strategy to leverage external expertise to ensure the integrated IT team continues to deliver LDB’s strategic initiatives timely and in high quality.
IT department of the LDB is responsible for the entire computing infrastructure for all of the 230+ BC Liquor Stores, BC Cannabis Stores as well as LDB’s head office in Burnaby and 4 Warehouse/Distribution Centres including Delta, Kamloops, Richmond, and Victoria. IT department also manages three data centres located in Burnaby, Delta and Kamloops.
Sr. Analytics Data Engineer — Reporting to the Senior Manager, Data Analytics Governance, this role provides technical and analytical skills for development, enhancement, installation, administration, and maintenance of the organization’s mission critical Data Warehouse (DW) and Analytics Data Platform, focusing on Data Integration using modern data integration products. The position manages the extraction, transformation and loading of data from diverse operational systems and external data sources to create data sets and databases, in support of regular and ad-hoc data analytics for decision making. It also requires understanding business requirements to design the data pipeline.
The incumbent will need to quickly gain and maintain knowledge of the Branch business and the applications it uses, the content of diverse operational source systems, and the physical structure of the databases. The incumbent must understand the fundamentals of data architecture and data warehousing to lead migration of data to data warehouse structures.
The position manages the extraction, transformation and loading of data from diverse operational systems to create data sets and databases, in support of regular and ad-hoc reports for decision making. It also functions as an expert consultant regarding current systems / data architecture and assists in system development and conversion during data warehouse subject area development phases.
